Im thinking about putting sub woofers into my truck and was wondering how much it would cost to do so properly. Right now, my stereo system is completely stock, and All I want to get is 2 12inch kickers with the boxes to put them in.

Now I've also been told an amp would be necessary is that true?

and would I also need to upgrade my regular speakers too?

and finally is there anything else that would be required or recommended?

Stereo

I buy all my stuff from Crutchfield. They can do on-line chat or you can call them to ask all of your questions.

A sub needs a higher powered amp than your factory stero can put out.

Ask the Crutchfield rep about a tri-way set up from a 4 channel amp.

2 channels bridged to be mono for the sub, and two channels for rear speakers and leave the front two on the factory or aftermarket radio.

you can use factory radio and speakers they just will not sound right because you volume would be so high to get full use of sub that they would distort bad . the factory radio might not have rca out puts for and amp but you cand buy a box a radio shack or online the lets you use factory speaker wires and tap into them to get the input for box that has rca outputs for an amp . the subs will need and amp and 12 kickers use 150 to 350 depends on model so a four channel would be good but you would be using as two channel one for each sub because of the amount of watts needed for each sub . there are many more factors and could go on for day so if you need any more info just let me know
thanks bparks

What I would suggest is an inexpensive 4chl amp with speaker lvl. inputs and a built in Xover. $125 premade box for one sub $60 and a 10" sub $50. Let the factory deck run the back speakers and the front will go to the amp as the inputs. the amp will run the front factory speakers on high pass to cut out the bass. The rear chls will run the 10" sub on low pass.
Easy system to install and easy to pay for. Best of all it will make a huge differance in the sound.

also what kind of truck is this we are talking about. You can also get a amp that has a bass control knob so you can turn the bass down on factory deck run the factory speakers with little or no bass.Than control bass from bass control knob some trucks sound get this way.I've done lots of trucks this way.
