Stupid question

Where do the (2) wires for the EVO fan hook to? I bought mine used. I hook it to the 12v supply that goes to the outlet, but it throws an ECU code and the fan doesn't work? The fan tests good though. Everything seems to operate fine with it disconnected. Luckily.
