Stupid question...what direction to install pistons

I know this is a stupid question but my engine has been apart for six months now and for the life of me cant remember what direction my pistons should be installed. Im 95% sure I marked down that the arrow points toward the front of the engine but the sheet I wrote it all down on got oil and crud all over it from my roomates engine teardown. Am I correct? Dont want to go installing the pistons backwards now.

Correct.....arrow goes towards the exhaust of the engine. Which on this particular engine, exhaust and intake are on the same side but in general the arrow (for Polaris engines) goes towards the exhaust.

another good thing for a double check is that there is ring pins on the piston, and those should NEVER slide over a port. so if you look they ride on a straight section of the cylinder.

Put mine back together about 3 weeks ago. If you put them in backwards it will not start...took me a few days to figure out I had them in backwards. Arrow to the front is defintely the right way. FYI...the picture in the service manual is wrong.
