stupid antifreeze question

ok this is a dumb question but is there was way to drain the antifreeze so when i pull my jugs off it all dosnt flow down into my crank?? and all over the belly pan like it did when i pulled off my head??

Thanks for any help, Travis.

Shop vac for me too. Hold it onto the top of the reservior bottle and it sucks it out pretty fast. The downside is that you lose the antifreeze.

thanks for all the imput, i shoulda used the shop vac, instead i used a pump and sucked it out of the reservior but it didnt get it all and when i took off the head it whent everywere but o well i learned the hard way. going to be dropping it off at the dealership soon anyway.

You might not get enough to keep it clean of the T-stat is closed, you might have to pull the t-stat out. If you can, pull the return line off the motor and drain it out through the belly pan into a container - can't save it this way but it is usually fairly clean. Then just clean out the res. Maybe you did this though.

Or

Use 1 jug on the floor, plastic fuel hose on a ball type suction hand pump (like a siphon hose or outboard boat primer pump). Squeeze the hand pump until the fluid flows into the jug, it will siphon itself from there so long as the jug is lower than the sled. Suck as much as you can from the reservoir and down the coolant hose as far as you can reach, take the coolant hose off at the head and suck us much as you can from inside that area. or you can hook the vacuum directly to the head or the hose to get better suction, and go from there. I avoid the vacuum though since there is no way to re-use the fluid like you can with the jug. Even if you really clean out the vacuum beforehand, I still wouldn't re-use the coolant. If you pop the T-stat out, usually you can get down a couple of passages to suck enough out that it won't flow into the crankcase or all over the place when you take the head off.

Using a wet/dry vac is the way to go. On my XLT, I pulled the radiator cap off, and hit it with a vac to suck the level down, then took off the highest hose to the head and put the vac on that. In about 15 seconds, the system was completely dry. Poured the old antifreeze out of the vac into a recycle container and rinsed what little was left in the vac out. No mess, and the vac should dry out just fine. Be sure to take the filter out of the vac before doing this, or any moisture that gets on it will turn whatever dust is on it to concrete, essentially.

Don't know enough abot my new 700RMK to know how it would work, but should be able to do something similar. The factory repair manual for the XLT said to take off the lowest hose and just let the antifreeze drain out of the belly pan (and probably all over the floor). That would be messy!
