studded track????

studded track???? PICS ADDED!!!!!!

anybody have any luck studing a snowhawk track. i did have the klymaxx track screws but im sure you already know how many lugs fell off my track!!!! i was thinking of standard type studs with backers???? any thoughts or should i be the ginny pig and try it??? i was thinking about putting them more along the outside than the center for cornering when its icy, etc.i also had the adb screws but there wore down to nothing after a weekend...

Those Klymaxx screws look too gnarly for our long, thin paddles. The Maxi grips look good though. Did yours rip out of the paddle or rip the paddle off? I ran the basic Boivin style lug screws for two seasons and they still had some bite, but not much. How much Ice/pavement did yours encounter to wear out so fast? I like the lug screws better than punching the track only because it was easy and quick. Using a punch template and ice picks seemed overkill in our conditions.

If you did a ring of picks around the perimeter of both edges of track, it'll surely hold you up in the icy corners. How far from the edge, inside or outside the hyfax? How long of a pick? Every lug or every other lug? Cool idea, I would put them every lug and 1/2 way between the clip and edge of the track. Is there enough room for the backers without rubbing the hyfax?

with klmaxx i lost several screws, both pulling out/tearing out of the lug, and ripped the lugs clear off down to the cords! around western ny there is alot of roads and icy conditions with minimal base...definitley need something with a carbide tip. kind of limited with backer type studs due to the height of the lugs on the hawk.ive been searching for the longest studs possible, that would decide where i would run them...
maybe ill swap my thrashed track back on and experiment with studs to see how well it holds up....

yeah , but the hawk has over 2" center lugs...never seen a stud that long, except for certain movies!hahaha. thats why i was thinking more towrds the edges which would help cornering anyways. im gonna hit up the local snocross pros at benders at see if they have some old scrap laying around...

I don't remember seeing picks over 2" long either. I didn't think of the center studs, just the edges where your track isn't too tall and for cornering support. Come on, you dont need those tall manly paddles in Buffalo, :face-icon-small-win trim 1/2" off the center lugs of your beater track so your ice pick length can be effective in the center of the track as well. If you trimmed the track and put those Klymaxx ice screws in the fat tip of the remaining lug, running down the center, and ice picks on the outside edges for turning, I think you might have a killer combo.

I rode a Boivin trimmed 1 3/4" track and it seemed to spin up faster, as though the less drag and smaller outside circle were easier to pull for the final drive gear ratio. Maybe it was done as an experiment for a trail track and to see if it could get more top speed with less paddle.

you might be on to something!!!! trim down track. i dont think the snow is ever deeper than the lug height anyways!!! im gonna go stud shopping and see what i can find...

If your running mainly hardpack youll get better hifax life if you trim the lugs a 1/2 in or so , gets em closer to the ground thus more lube on the hard pack ! Ive experimented on sleds with this in the past and it does also seem to spin up a little faster . Ive also got a 600 with a 141 camoplast trimmed to 1 3/4 in an it gets around in deep stuff like you wouldnt believe

im gonna start the trimming tomorrow at work if im not to busy....found the right length studs for 1 3/4 center and shorter for the sides!!! maybe mid winter ill be trying it out...

over 100 miles of icy trails today.no issues,no carnage,no pulled through. came up to a monster ice chute with carnage all around.studded and non studded 2 skis slipping and slidin backwards tellin me not to chance it and take a bypass....hahahahahahahaha!!!!!! ever see a baby 503 pull a wheelie up a glare ice chute? i always love the look on their faces when they ask what motor you got it there? 503 fan i say....the look is priceless! i love studs(in my track)

I don't usually drool when I see a 'nuther mans studs, but daayyuummn!
That would be in the bad *** department, I bet they work as good as they look. Those guys on sleds would never believe it if they didn't see you climb up that icy, rutted chute with their own eyes. For some strange reason, even then, they still can believe it.
Put a slide bar or two in yer tunnel to keep them studly studs out of your delicate plastic, since your gas tank is just on the other side. I'd hate to rip a slice into the plastic with those babies and spring a leak! I have black skid marks in my shorts, I mean, on my tunnel where the track slaps it on occasion, only reason i think of it. Now, how to convince my riding buddies that adding studly weights to my track to ride powder is somehow a good thing??
