Struther's Clutch Kit...Helix Question

Can someone tell me what the angles are on their helix that comes in their clutch kit for the pro? For example, is 62-40-38 etc? Do they even put this on their helix?

I have called Carl's and it doesn't seem like they want to give that information out, which is understandable. So, if someone would prefer to PM me so that this stays private that would be fine.

The reason I ask is I think I may have their helix in my shop but want to verify.

Thanks...

So they do all the testing and reasearch and you just want to copy there kit? Sounds fair.... And to answer your question there are no angles on Carl's helix. Not to mention they are custom cut angles so you want be able to find the angles on any other used helix if that is what you are thinking. Unless of course you have team custom cut one for you, but then you would might as well order carl's as team's custom cuts are more expensive. Just my .02!

Nope...not trying to "copy" anything. Infact, my sled is at Carl's right now and I spend PLENTY of dough with them every year as I support them and ALL their testing.

I have to know what I am putting in my sled. Carl's stuff is generally spot on but they don't test at my altitude 9000 - 11000 ft. SO, I buy their stuff and have to make tweaks here and there to get it just right. My point by asking was simply to know what I would have in my sled should I buy their helix. By knowing that (angles and such), I will be able to make educated adjustments depending on my sled's performance. Even if I knew their exact angles, it would cost me more to have a custom helix cut from TEAM than just to buy it from them. Thus, this is NOT about copying what they are doing and mass producing their helix. This is about tuning and knowing what I am running. If you think that is that is wrong...bless your heart.

If you don't know what the cut of their helix is or you don't feel right sharing, than just skip over this post. I think Carl's are big enough boys to stand-up for themselves :)

Just my .50!

I see nothing wrong with you asking them for the info. If you spent that much money with them and they won't help you, then I'd be done using them for my parts.

Not an expert- but couldn't ya just take a ruler and protractor and measure the angles yourself??

Understand totally, no problems with that at all! I would think if your sled was in the shop with them, Chris would be the one to try and get the info from! But to answer your question the angles haven't been on the helix in the past. Thanks

From what I have heard they are running the same helix in the pro as they did in the later dragons...my 08 dragon helix from carls does have the angles marked on it but later ones didnt....I think up that high I would want less finish then what carls runs..something along the lines of 58/38/.36 if it was me...

I agree Ak, a 42 or a 40 finish is to much at that elevation I would guess a 38 would be what is needed, then possibly a black purple or black white spring.

I think the one I bought from them is a 58/38 .36 and 58/40 .36. It should be the same Helix that was in you 685. It is also an SLP blue/pink in the primary and Blk/purple in the secondary.

If its the same helix that they use in the Dragons its a custom cut that the have done. I can dig through my info and find it, but it's a .40 length on the transition which is different that any other TEAM cuts.

I ride at higher altitudes and actually that helix is nice because you can get the spacer washer from SLP and put it in and move it to a .36 which makes it perform better above 9000 feet.

This is why i didnt go with carls either....i know their initial angle is to steep for a 163 track at our elevation + am a big guy. I called Dustin at SLP and got mine clutch kit from him as they tested all the way up to 11k with the same setup i got.

thank you AK
i've been trying to figure out if my dragon helix would be the same for my pro
YAHOOO !

I'm surprised to hear of the 58 series coming out of Carl's. I've been told that is "an Eastern Idaho setup" The 11 Pro 155 I just bought came set up with a top gear lower than stock, 10-64 weights, blue/pink primary, 58/38/36 -58//40/36. I rode it once last winter. She JUMPS out of the hole. It was not a good powder day so I don't know how it does in the deep. It's been rumored to be a "Wednesday Sled"

Their base kit pro 155 angles are 62:42 and 60:40. Don't know transition, custom cut I'm told, so that may only help you so far. Believe the secondary is Gold - Black. FWIW.

That was the Edge helix they ran and also the first Dragon helix they ran until they started having one cut custom.

Carl's tunes for all elevations. They have customers running sleds in areas at 0 elevation all the way up to customers running at 12,000 feet. I've ridden here in Utah with Jack from 8-11k several times.
