Stripped Chain case/plug

When I was putting the plug back in the chaincase on my 08 RMK, the plug stripped out the threads on the chaincase. What really upsets me is that I even torqued it to the proper specs in the owners manual. I have been reading this is fairly common.

Anyone have ideas on how to fix it without changing the case?

Thanks.

Heli-coil would be by far the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to repair the case. Ive seen lots of stripped drain plug bolts mostly being on 900''s since the plug is on an angle and it gets cross threaded.

I've stripped a few. Napa (Belknap) has a self tapping drain plug that I think is a one size over metric. I have it in 3 cases, 2 for a year now. I'll look in the shop tomorrow and post up a part number and pic if I can remember. I have posted this a while back so you could search my posts and find one relating to chain cases. The info should be there. Have a good one. EW

I did the same thing last time I was in mine, just drill it out (37/64 bit) if memory is correct, pipe thread tap and plug to match (brass plug with teflon tape on threads will seal nicely) should be a pretty simple fix!:) I would take your plug to the local hardware store for proper sizing though as memory has failed me once before! make sure to tap it slowly (not too deep) or the plug will get into your lower gear! you want the progressive pipe threads to get tight as the plug becomes flush with inside of case ideally... good luck:D
