String Trimmers - Weed Whips

I have a Stihl 2 stroker.

Bought it in 1993 and this thing works fantastic. 2nd pull start every time.

No matter what trimmer you buy, do NOt buy a gas can and fill it with more than a 3 week supply. I also run a small amount of SeaFoam in the gas can.

Then at the end of the trimming season, I take and add a few ounces of Seafoam to the trimmer gas tank and run the engine for 5 minutes or so, then open up the gas cap, and dump out the remaining gas, then run the gas line completely empty........

I cannot say enough about my Stihl.

Another thing to watch for on the two strokes is the exhaust. On alot of models, mine included, there is a small screen at the exhaust outlet. That small screen gets "gooped" up with oil sludge and will create back pressure, and the trimmer will run real "sluggishly"

Get rid of that screen, it seems to serve no purpose.........

I also run Klotz for oil, so I get that sweet smell of winter as I am trimming my lawn.......

Better than any damn weed eater...

Ditto's on fuel management. I do the same thing.

I have a Stihl FS-160 I bought in 1989. Just installed the 3rd spark plug in 20 years.
Done nothing else to the engine or drive train.
Had to get a new string reel a couple years ago.

I also have the brush saw , and a wicked 3-bladed machette for whacking down brush and heavy weeds. The blade looks a bit like one of those throwing stars.

Those nylon weed chopper bars work well, but rocks chip and break them, even when trying to be careful.

One more thing on fuel , I couldn't get my Stihl-025 chain saw started this spring on last Falls fuel mix.
Great stuff this alcohol blend farmer subsidy fuel. Not.
I have switched to Non-Oxygenated 91 lately for all the small engines.

have echo gt 2000 full crankshaft, straight shaft, been using it for 8 yrs and was used when i got it,just hang it in the garage and fire it up every summer, one of these days i should do some maintainence on it:eek:
