Is it safe to run a straight pipe on a stock 1100 turbo? Thinking about building my own...

Yes, it will be fine on the turbo model.

It works better to put a muffler on it. Still sounds good and flows nice.

straight pipe

got tired of waitng for my can i ordered so i built my own straight pipe.works good and sounds awesome.

I had my heart set on a big dog barker but got tired of waiting and fabbed up a straightpipe out of 2.5". It is loud at idle but as the rpm climb the turbo muffles it and as soon as you are in the snow it's hard to tell you have a straightpipe. This setup still weighs in at a little over 3 lbs. so if you want a muffler you can add at least a couple more pounds to that. I have a buddy that cut up his stock can and added a section of 2" pipe to it and it is a little quieter than the 2.5" but doesn't flow quite as much as 2.5". IMO the straightpipe is the best bet for mountain riders.

Mine will be done today, 2.5 inch stainless. I've got the bracket and sensor mounted, just have to drill my flange holes. Anybody having a problem with the rubber exhaust flap on the bottom of the belly pan getting to hot from the pipe??

Believe it or not but the straight pipe is not that loud. Quiter than a stock 450 dirtbike. Sounds like a small muffler might be the way to go if you are relitively stock.

:)

Got ours finished today, added a little baffle and used 2 in. pipe.... wrapped with the same heat wrap used on motorcycles.... worked out awesome!

Are there any down falls to be considered when using a straight pipe on the m1100t?

Mine has never missed a beat. I cut the stock flange off of the stock can and had a piece of 2" pipe made up and welded the two together and made a mounting bracket. Hasnt melted the rubber boot in 900kms so far.
