Stock pipe question for 02 800???

A buddy of mine has an 02 800 RMK that runs like total s##t, it currantly has twin pippes and never runs right. He would like to find a stock exhaust to put back on to it so it is a pull the rope and go kind of sled. My question is, are the stock pipes on 02-03 800s and 700s interchangable, because I found a stock exhast for sale in swapmeet, but it is off a 03 700. Would it work as long as it is off a VES 700 going to a VES 800?

Any help on this is appreciated or if anyone has a stock exhast that will work on an 02 800, I'm looking.

Yes they are the same.

My question is why wont it run with the twins? Mine ran awesome with twin pipes. Maybe there is an underlying issue.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm a mechanically challenged moron, I don't know why it won't purr with the twins. Starts, runs, but doesn't have any topend. He even had new pistons and rings put in recently and had it rejetted. Still, just barely gets around. The mechanic who worked on it told him if he wanted it to run right he would have to constantly tinker with it at different elevations or he could just return it to stock form and it would run fine.

I've never had a sled that was modded besides a single pipe and can, so what do I know. Stock has always worked for me. Not sure what we're missing here? Seems to foul plugs easily also. It seems like it is just running on one cylinder all the time.

I have SLP twins on my 04' 800 and it rips, I didnt' change jetting at all last season once I got the piston wash where I liked it. Same with clutching. Mine is pretty dang consistent, so yes, there is an underlying problem with your buddies sled.

Same with mine, jetted and clutched once and thats it. He should have someone that knows what they are doing look at it.

All twin pipes for the edges are not created equel. SLP's are pretty reliable with few tuning issues. It would help if you knew what twins they are and if there is any other modifications done to the sled. If you're not mechanically iclined like you said and don't mind alittle loss in performance. I would just go back to stock and not deal with a crap set of pipes. Try to take a picture of them. SLP had an early version of twins that had different stingers and can that didn't do as well as the later version.

The SLP single pipe is a plug and go with virtually no tuning issues. Assuming you have the needle in the #2 position and the air horn has been removed, of course. The twin pipes are finicky and are not for amateurs. Edge sleds are overweight pigs and need a SLP single pipe so that you can keep up with the CATS. With any aftermarket pipe, the insulation beneath the hood needs to be removed because you will otherwise be melting it. The stock pipes have a heat shield on them that keeps the insulation from melting. You will also be removing the right side grills on the hood intakes, in order to get more cool air under the hood. And don't forget to add the heat shield tape on any plastic beneath the hood that is within 3 inches of the pipe.

slp single

I have ran several different brands of twin sets and have always run into problems. Throw in an SLP Single and it will run consistent all day long every day.
