sticker/decal removal

i'm sure theres a thread on here somewhere...but whats the best method to remove old decals...or old registration stickers? anyone have any luck with anything? mine are all on metal/aluminum... any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated!

I just removed the decals off my hood and the back of my painted tunnel. I used a heat gun to heat it up, then peeled it off. Any adhesive remaining can be gotten off with WD-40.

Hey guys,
A hair dryer, only enough to make the sticker not brittle, if you heat it up to much it will warm up the glue and it will stick on your sled and not come off with the sticker.

3m Wheel

3M makes a rubber wheel made for specifically removing decals. It is about 4 inchs in Dia and mounts in a drill of a Die grinder. Most good auto body stores sell them. They are a bit spendy and you will want to keep moving it around, But i have used it on painted hoods and it works well. The time saved is worth it. And the ease of use.

best way I found. heat gun/ hair dryer and wd-40

adhesive can also be taken off with Goo Gone, usually found at your local TrueValue, but it can run pretty spendy and you don't really get a whole lot of use out of it. best bang for the buck, is the wd-40 and hair dryer.

Will the wd-40 or acetone discolor the panels on an xp?

no it shouldn't

If it's just steel...no...if you are talking a painted steel...WD-40 won't hurt it...

I used a blow dryer and goo off last year to take off my decals from my 07 rev and it discolored the black panels. SO i dont want to discolor the panels on the 09 xp i got the decals off the hood really easy and the ones on the panels came off pretty easy but in some places there is still adhesive

They run about 12.00 bux. But be careful a high speed will burn down into warm plastic.

Tar and bug remover works really well. Just took alot of stickers of my new sled and it didn't discolor any of the plastic. Just rub it on and let it sit for a bit while you move on to the next one.
