I am glad I did. Here is what one of my friends brought into me and asked --where did this come from--- and my sled just started popping as I was loading it in the trailer ran great all day.1200 miles 12 assault.
Last week he was telling me to ride my assault,he says don't worry I got 2700 mile on my 10 Dragon and it still running . He can not say that about his Pro thou.
I parked my assault at 1500 miles and went back riding my 700 dragon almost 3000 miles on it. As we were talking he commented on his 700 07 Dragon has over 4500 hard miles on it than he went to the 800-10 Dragon 2700 miles and it never did run right so he bought into the Pro hype that the engine is better in the Pro. 1200 miles Kaboom.
Will a 700 engine fit into the PRO? I think I will buy a 07 700 do a couple of mods and have the best of both worlds.
I know this topic has been beat like a red headed step child but the facts do not lie POLARIS CAN NOT OR WILL NOT BUILD A 800 THAT WILL LAST.
He is wishing he did not sell his 700 he could be riding this weekend got a 800 dragon that will not run and a Blown up Pro.View attachment 173314

Thats why I am riding an 08 700 rmk. Wanted to order a pro really bad last year but the reliability issue kept me from doing so. Great chassis but engine just not proven. Had 5 different polaris 600 engines with over 5000 miles with no issues at all. Most of the reviews now are only from one or two seasons of riding with only like 700 to 1500 miles. I dont have as much opportunity to ride as much anymore and travel to ride so an unreliable sled just doesn fit in the plan. Hope the engines do better because I really want a pro.

Keep your eyes open they should follow in The Dragons foot steps once the warranty is gone. I agree great chassis I love to ride mine just do not have any faith in their engine. This summer my is going to RK Tech for the 858 kit hope that solves the issue.

(if there was a sarcasm font, this post would be written in it)

Beamslayer, we need to change your name to Chicken Little....:loco:

"the sky is falling, the engines are blowing!"

I understand the frustrations of those who have spent big money on a sled and it blows up or is otherwise unrideable.....

You parked your sled WITHOUT a problem because you have a feeling it's ging to grenade.

My 2011 has 2600 miles, my GF 2011 has 1800 miles, my 2012 has 1300 miles.

Will they all hold together? I hope so.
Do I know that for a fact? No.
Do I expect a failure a some point? Yes, as I would from any of the three two stroke manufacturers.

Am I going to sit at home so they won't break? That makes no sense to me.

You have your 700, why don't you TRY and break your Pro-- if it blows, warranty the engine and put in Kelsey's 858 kit in a fresh motor and sleep easy.

What the heck do you do with avalanche info? Stay home under the covers?....

BS, I hope you realize I'm just busting your balls. I agree Polaris should build us a BULLETPROOF motor, I just don't know if it's a realistic in the current EPA / economic climate. Until then, I'll keep ripping our Pros. If/ when we have a problem, we'll deal with it....or a least Polaristar will. ;)

Just cause one blows up does not mean there is a mass problem. A majority of them are good. I have 2 11's with 3000+ miles and they both run awesome! And a 12' with 1300 miles. I have total faith in these motors. People over exaggerate everything because so many people lost faith with the dragons. And yes the 700 dragon is an awesome sled we've got one with 9000 miles on it and it finally lost a rod bearing.

Murph the sky is falling --- big white flakes right know. I do not have a warranty That is why it is parked if I had a warranty yes I would be out riding it.But it is on my dime to fix it so does it make more sense for me to tear it down now or wait till I have a hole in the bottom of my case ? $2000 to kelsey or $4000 to poo for the same exploding engine.
I am responsible for me if avy danger is high I find somewhere else to ride,if I cold seize my engine my fault I pay for it,I buy a 2011 assault no warranty my fault,Polaris builds a under powered, poorly designed engine since 08 whose at fault for that.
Someone else made the comment on here if the warranty company went belly up what would your $13000 investment be worth???
You do the math you have 3 new sleds.

Yes they are fun to ride. It took me awhile to get use to the IQ again. The little lady was not happy when I took it back and she had to ride her 06 600. View attachment 173324

2600 miles thats a lot of trail riding.

Bad motors but Poo give a 4 yr warr for free. Come on they are not stupid. But not riding it becuase you heard a couple grenade, thats crazy!

Beamslayer makes a good point. $4000 won't be enough to cover an eng that blows out the cases. If you don't have warranty, and have 1500-2000 miles, I would be at least putting in new pistons. Snow now isn't exactly fluffy deep, so why risk a major prob. for a ho hum ride anyway. Or Beamslayer, see if you can buy an extended warranty on it still? Then ride it like ya stole it!

Do they extend the warranty with every engine they replace or does it stay with the sled.
Hey Palouse did you get yours back and running ?

Fair enough. No warranty. Possible short block replacement=SPENDY.

I take back my previous statement, Beamslayer you are a gambling man-- much more so than me-- you bought a Pro without the four year warranty.

I came from Yamahas and was scared to death that we would lose one or both the first year-- I kept the Nytro all last season just in case.

As for our "investment"...I think we would both agree that sleds are just for making holes in the snow that we can light money on fire in.....

Document the 858 installation for us. I'm really curious if your cylinder skirts are prematurely failing or not.

Beamslayer I feel for you----The Polaris forums is a funny forum, those that have had engine problems and let the other Polaris owners know that the "800 isn't God's gift to snowmachine engines" gets ridiculed by those that didn't have any issues. Just because something didn't happen to you like an engine failure doesn't mean that you will have an engine failure but it also doesn't mean that there isn't an inherent engineer and design flaw in the engine. If you guys are tired of reading about those that have had failures don't read the post. That person that is telling us about their issues has every right to, learn something from them it might help you one day, that what these forums are for. We all need to release not all people are in the same situation. People have this attitude to ride the Pro 800 till she blows and let warranty take care of it, well some didn't snowcheck and get the 4 year. Also what good is warranty when it is taking Polaris forever to get 800's fixed? The one 12 I was telling you all about in my horror story, is still in the shop, (since late Feb) word is April 17 case halves are off back order (I think dealer is more concerned about RzRs right now to be honest). Here's something else to consider we all don't ride the same or run the engine the same or ride at the same altitude. I think instead of the division amongst us snowest'ers we ought to unite and find out what is going on with this engine instead of denying there is a problem or bashing on those that have had troubles, Why aren’t we all coming together and trying to push for Polaris to answer our request, MAKE A RELIABLE, CLASS LEADING HP ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

dont put a 700 in the pro chassey, just buy the 600 pro,it runs circles around the 700:face-icon-small-hap

I don’t get it guys. If I was as worried or concerned about failures you know about, or those you think MIGHT happen, I would sell the the sled and buy something else!

I have always had good luck with the Polaris 800, but if that changes I will buy what ever sled is out there that I think is better. Until that happens you won’t hear me cry whine and worry. Even if my 800 PRO blows up tomorrow, I won’t cry, I will either decide it’s still the best sled for me, or sell the bitch!

It’s like a friend of mine who’s wife got fat. All he does is complain. If I was him and if it was that big of an issue I would get rid of her, or shut up and realize that the next one might get fat too!
Come on guys the whining and worrying is getting a bit old.

These comments are not directed at any one poster here, it’s just becoming to common of a theme. I realize that for some, maybe it’s venting, but grow a pair guys and ride the crap out of your sled or buy another one that you think is better!

Now I’m done venting..........

I hate to say it but who cares about extended warranty, seems to me the no brainer is rkt 800 drop in kit with head, reports sound reliable and 155-158 hp.

I`m a flatlander and I just traded my Pro-r 800 Rush in on a new switchback 136, this was my second Rush my first one burnt in a garage fire and had 1100miles on it, my second one I just traded had 3250 hard miles with a lot of WOT and neither one skipped a beat. My 07 Dragon went through 4 engiines in 5000 miles. I am very happy with the 800 cfi 2.

Here's another way of looking at things:

In all fairness, I guarantee no one even has enough miles on enough different sleds on the RKT drop in kit to say it completely "fixes" the issues. Ya, in threory it should, but if you compare the # of actual Pros out there with how many have this drop in kit its not too much. In a way I think the guys who are running these new drop in kits are kinda test mules for this kit. I'm not saying they don't work, they may, but the jury is still out IMHO. Hell, when the Pro first came out everyone said they were reliable for the first year, give or take. We see how that is playing out.

Hell, if you listen to what Indy Dan has to say about these Polaris 800's he says its definately a rod ratio problem, all the way to the point that he has a kit together that offers longer custom rods and spacer and used stock pistons(he also beefs up the cylinder skirt) & puts a warrenty on it. If you listen to RKT he says it definately is NOT a rod ratio problem, just needs his special design piston and the problem is "fixed". So who the hell are you going to listen too? So who has more miles on these things, who has seen the insides of these motors more?

We are all screwed for buying a Poo 800, LOL :face-icon-small-coo
