I bent the post on my 2002 Edge 800 rmk.....

1. Do I have to move the motor to replace it?

2. Where to get a good replacement?

Thank You

I have never tried to replace one with the motor still in the chassis. I think it would be kind of hard becasue the steering linkage runs under the motor. You can try pulling your air box and carbs and see if there is enough room but I don't think there will be. If you have to just pull your exhaust,(a few springs) take off the belt, undo the 2 nuts on the front motor mounts, undo the 5 bolts (2 mount sidways) in the back that hold the brass colored engine mounts (not the engine straps) and you can lift the motor up off the front motor mounts and slide or tilt the engine forward as necessary to get to the post and steering linkage. I think you could even leave all the coolant, hoses, and wires attached. There are a bunch of steering posts on Ebay right now.

it is possible to do it w/o pulling it out completely. you can unbolt the motor and get it out of your way enough to get to it. easier if you have a lift for the sled and someone holding the motor up. but would be way easier just pulling the motor out

Get a T post and not the flat top they are way stronger and gets you into a more forward position if you want.

Yeah you dont have to pull the motor, but will need to unbolt it and tip it forward and it can be kind of a pain....but thats what I did....took a couple hours. Also if you are looking for a good steeting post, talk to Wildchild here on the forum as he custom builds cromoly ones and the one I got from him NEVER bent.

I had to remove motor it may be able to be done with out but a pain in the azz. Wildchild on here can make you a chromoly one. I cut the flat top and put on T-top post on my 02 and shortend about 3" like Verticle Escape. It did diffinitly move to more rider forward position

pull airbox, pull carbs, unbolt motor and move foward and to the side...not 2 bad a job. I like the fabcraft post, t top chrome moly or wildchilds.
