Steering Post Moved Forward?? Like or Dislike??

Hello I have read alot about people moving the steering post forward on there Rev`s, Mine is a Summit X, I also have RSI 10inch riser. Is this a good Mod to do or not?? how many have done it and like it ??

Has anyone done it and moved it back, Why didn`t you not like it what ill effects did you dislike if this is the case??

Please any info welcome.

Thanks, Wildcard

Common sense would seem to point towards leaving it stock and keeping your weight further back to float the sled up in deep pow and carve better. BUT... that simply isn't the case with the REV platform. I found the mod to help get me further forward (into the sweet spot) and prevent the rear from washing out when sidehilling, better control thru the bumps, and less bar swing since the steering post is more in line with the riser block in the forward position. I say go 4 it - you can always put her back if you don't like it.

Thanks for the reply Gman that makes alot of sense, need a bit extra help in finding that sweet spot of the sled had a hard time getting it to lay over when really needed this last season Of course it was my first year on Rev and I don`t have the total feel and experience on this chassis but any helpful mods to the chassis if figure can`t hurt.

Please keep the replies and opinions coming

Yeh it makes the sled feel much more controlable. Sidehilling and boondocking are better for sure are better. This was the very first mod I made to my 04 project... would not bother riding it in the rear postion.

Liked it forward on the Rev. Moves the bars more inline w/ the post. Moving my wifes 600 forward and going to use the C3 bracket to do the same w/ the XP unless someone comes out w/ a setup similiar to what the Cats are doing to make the post vetical.

I had this Mod on two sleds and did not care for it at all.Steering will feel more like a Poo.I guess s if you like the Poo swing than your golden.Stock position allows you to simply weight down on the bars and had better Egros .There are advantages for trail riding in forward position.JMO

What sled did you come off of? A buddy of mine has the exact same sled as yours. He has always said he has to make sure his feet are WELL planted into the foot wells to get the balance just right on that sled. The little I have rode the sled I have found foot position is 90% of the battle. Get it right and you got it. If you don't have your foot in the right spot the sled will ride you.

As for the vertical steering. I have rode Cats forever so it feels really funny to ride the Horizontal style. But I know a lot of guys that do it and do it well. Just not my thing.

Ya pics of sleds with this mod done would be realy cool,

I am coming off a 97 Summit 670 sled that had a Rev seat conversion, and 05 Rev Non X model bars that were 8 inchs of rise then I sold the seat kit and had the stock seat specially upholstered and raised to about 4 inchs higher and footwell mods done also so my feet would get forward more steering post was also moved about 2 inch farther forward and had a custom second upper mount that took the flex out of the post and added tons of strength, it had an 06 Summit rears skid Set back to fit the AC 153x2.25x15 3.0pitch track with Wahl Bros 7 tooth 3.0pitch drivers, and 6.9 Pilot skis that were swapped it was a cool sled, Got my rev this year and parted out the older sled.

One thing on the Rev I beleive should help is the footwell mod I did on it and cut back the side cover alot more comfortable on where my feet set in the footwells and the back tip of the side covers don`t abstruct my feet location. Here is a pic

There's nothing to take a picture of - the only diff is the plastic cover piece at the console gets moved to the lower position (same as what comes on a standard REV). To do the mod you just use the forward hole for the upper steering post mount as the new rearward hole and drill a hole for the new front hole in the upper brace. The standard 121 Revs come with both sets of holes pre-drilled but not the Summits.

Couldn't imagine going back to stock. I felt like I had to stand back on the boards with the stock location, forward i'm able to stand where i'm comfortable which is import because I only ride standing.

quick 20 min improvement, just have to drill two holes and dismount and remount console.

Hello Everyone, I did the steering post forward mod this evening, my sled has 10inch RSI risers on it and I have a bit of a tip back angle to them with the steering post in stock position after removing the dash and unbolting the post setting it forward and drilling the new front set of holes and I was puting it back together I noticed I had to reroute my throttle cable only cause I had rerouted it when I installed the riser so I had to reroute it to the front of the steering post so I could reinstall the plastic piece to the dash again. everything went together pretty easy and has a touch under 45 minutes to do this mod, I kept the riser angle just like it was when the post was in stock position actually feels pretty good, If I don`t like the angle I can adjust it on the trail or in the hills come next season, feels pretty good I can stand father forward and my arms extended away from my body feels better too.

Here are step by step pics of the mod as it went on, the first couple pics it the before and after position of the post then after is the order in which I
did the mod, you can see where the throttle cable was before I started the mod and where I had to move it forward of the post to reinstall the plastic filler piece. Hope it works well when I get to ride it in the Hills Thanks for all the replies and advice.

the last couple pics is new mod Idea I had for my goggles when I remove the goggles from my quick strap clips on my helmet I filed the corners of how the clip to the pin on the helmet so they come off easier when I want, works better but alot of the time when i take my goggles off my helmet I no place to set them with out them falling into the snow right after I just got done cleaning them of snow etc.. so I had a few extra pin things like you stick to your helmet , so I trimmed one with scissors and stuck it to the top of the controls on the LH side of the bars and now I can hang my goggles from the handle bars with out them falling into the snow or slipping off the seat etc.. also stuck the round velcro piece to the center of the bar pad, so I can put another set of goggle like when I`m swapping out to my extra set or some thing now I have a place to put 2 sets of goggle securely, It works AWESOME

Check it out..

Good mod bud. Highly recommend. I found myself pushing my riding limits various times on the Rev this season.(After 3 soild seasons on a XP) The plastic/footwell mod is classy ;-) and a MUST DO if you are very aggressive and like to ride with the wrong foot forward.
For me, hanging off the side of the sled in a controlled manner required more effort than I was used to(XP) and by the end of the year I was fighting the sled to do things it didn't want to do. Forward post and holy smokes........Now it LOVES to do the stuff and make the lines I ask of it......without fighting it!
Only issue I have now is the skis......C&A Pros.........work awesome.....but catch when countersteering and can potentially rip the bars outta my hands......hopefully some creative table saw designs in the skis will fix that issue.

Keep the mod, the best part about working with sleds that have a few years on them is that we know all the tricks and goods to make them work flawless......it's great! Now just keep saving money for when these damn things get cranky.

Thanks, And good reply and tips Reeb I am hoping it works as good as you and other have explained, for my skis I actaully went back to the stock 04 skis hoping they will sidehill easier that the 6.9 pilots I had on it before, I had them swapped and had a Carl`s type cut out on them and they still seemed to lift the side of the sled tossing me out of a sidehill manuever especially if I was facing down hill and tries to try to carve it back to a up hill cut around,l I have read alot where people don`t like how the turn and are grabby in the corner but the bumpy whoop dee doo trails we have to ride before we get to out play areas don`t think any ski is going to work wel on these trails except a Simmons, my buddy has simmons and they rail in the corner but still push out on the pumps, I want a ski that is super easy to sidehill with so maybe since the stock ski has no outer shelf at all on it it should make sidehilling at least easier, Can`t really afford Mod ski right now.

Any other ski anyone would recommend that would work well and not have to much of a floatation shelf on the outside of the ski???

I really want sone Alt Impact A-arms but the stance would only be a touch over an inch stance than mine is now, they say 37 when sled setting on its feet and my sled measures 38 1/4 inchs now would probably only gain by the weight savings I figure, maybe have to but light weight panels. Are the BR tech side panels really flemsy like if you tipped the sled in the snow would it push the plasic lightweight panel into the clutch??

Thanks, Wildcard

Mods skis have the best float and release for sidehilling of any ski and I've tried them all except for the Gen III Simmons (which do look intriguing). The '04 skis flat out suck so I'd suggest saving your jingo for new skis. But honestly, the Pilot 6.9's aren't that bad. If you were having problems with those then maybe you were experiencing diving problems? If you pull the stabilizer bar without going to stiffer front shock springs you'll have that problem mo matter WHAT ski you use! Another key factor to getting the REV platform dialed for holding a sidehill is to make sure you have enough front track shock spring pressure to release the countersteer quickly. There's a fine balance between too little and too much (which will cause plowing because you increase the attack angle). You have to experiment for your riding weight and snow conditions. Having too weak of springs in front can add to the problem (which I suspect from what you're telling us).

I have mine now setup offset to the inside a bit and at 36 in. center center ski stance

Powder pros with carls cut work awsome, they side hilled pretty good before but after the cut it's easy to hold a cut ... makes it effortless.

I also have my sled set up pretty tippy, long limiter strap, only running 35 pounds ( measured extended ) in my floats and it just flat works great.

Hello Gman, thanks again for the reply I`ve been curious and this was my next step is to ask and get suggestions on the suspension set up, to tell ya all what I have, to start with my sled is running now has the steering post forward with 10 inch RSI Risers, a 159x15 polaris series 4 track that really seems to hook up well and haven`t seem to have any floation and traction problem, I do plan on porting the track but now people are talking that porting isn`t a good floation option, anyway my sled is geared 19/46 it has a skistance of how it sets now of 38 1/2 inchs ctc spindle, has the 04 skis on but after hearing you opinion on them I will switch back to the 6.9 pilot skis they were swapped from side to side and have a pretty radical carl`s cutout type mod done to them from ski bolt back to rear of ski and 2-3 inchs shaved off the back of them they are set to the narrow offset position.

Front X Package shocks are currently set on position 3 and the front skid shock I beleive has about 1 inch of thread showing and the limiter strap is pretty loose and the rear spring adjuster is set to position 2.

Sled has a dynoport lightweight can, oil injection delete and running pod filters or no airboxes and lots of venting added to the top side, lower side and rear of side covers , and have trimmed the back of the side covers for the footwell mod, I have not ridden the sled since these lastly listed mods along with the steering post forward mod, so these could make a big difference already riding season is over around here, I`m not sure 37 inch a-arms would help on wideth or narrowness advantages that would only narrow me 3/4inch per side, but the lighter weight should help.

Also a Boss Seat is on the list for weight savings and heigth.

How strong or durable are the BR tech side cover?? would put a set on but dont want really flemsy panels that would get pushed into the clutchs if the sled tip over on its side in the snow.

I definetly going to try to get mod skis before next season.

What do ya think??? Any suggestion from ya all would be appreciated and considered.

Thanks, Wildcard

The forward post position makes your bars even taller so unless you're 6'6" and taller there is no need for 10" risers (go with the lowest height where you're still comfy standing - see "Schooled" by Chris Burandt as to why). X Package springs are also worthless - get the next stiffest if you've removed the stabilizer bar. Boss seat is a great mod for the REV platform as are Better Boards. Lightweight sidepanels are worthless on a mtn sled and don't bother porting that Polaris track. I'm also not a fan of pods - the weight loss is offset by the lower HP from sucking hot motor air unless you build a cowling to the outside vent like the Timbersled setup. Honestly the SLP setup with existing airbox is the cheapest/best way to go for better intake.
