Is there good riding near Steamboat? I have a friend that has a house I can use for nothing and need to know if there is good deep snow riding near by. Any help would be great.

No, there is nothing even remotely close to steamboat... Is this a real question? :face-icon-small-ton That's like asking if there is good dune riding around Glamis CA. Lol. There is some of the best riding in the lower 48 with 1 hour of steamboat!

Yea dude, lots of good riding around Steamboat! You say you have a house that you can use for nothing? You're my new best friend! LOL!:face-icon-small-hap I love to go up there on a Friday after work and stay in Steamboat and ride the weekend.

Why does everyone have be such ah$#?? You ever think the guy might have just moved here and is not familar with the area? And thats why he is asking. But no all you guys can do is be a smart ***!!

This place is funny.

Peeps getting all mad, peeps being snarky, peeps being nice... it's like this place is some sort of reflection of different personalities within the human race.

[nice]
YES, there is good riding around steamboat.

Sometimes there is good riding but sometimes there is not. depends on the time of year.

Don't try and roll up on here and take my secret stash of public land.

I would to thank the only person that gave some information. Thank you it is nice to hear from someone who wants to help. As I do not live nor ride in CO I thouhgt I would ask and see what happens. I do most of my ridding in WY, the big horns, and some in Jackson hole. As my friend offered his place I thought it would be worth a post to see if a person who has never been there could enjoy some good riding. Thanks

dune riding? isn't that tough on sleds?

Muddy creek lot top of Rabbit Ears Pass is the spot

One of them. It's the most popular parking spot on the Pass. Get there early, 8am at the latest, unless you drive a truck with a sled bed, then you are fine. You can jam that thing in anywhere.

Alot of people get defensive (I'm guilty) about giving away info on their stomping grounds. RE/buff is one of the most popular areas due to the ease of access from the chitty. There are better places to ride but for non-residents and city folk they are inconvenient. RE/Buff has a tendency to get over-crowded and if you don't know your way around, a 24" powder day can get tracked out pretty fast. But it remains popular, SAR can get there fast and you have mobile service at 95% of the places you can ride up there.

RE/buff is also victim to twig fairies who seems to haunt the sledding parking lots and harass people. The area falls under more tree hugging scrutiny every year and the "boundary" slowly inches East every season. Well, at least the signs do. The boundary stays the same but the no sledding signs get placed differently every year.

There are places that are less crowded but hard to get too. One of my faves is up Elk River Road out of Steamboat. Best way to discover that area is to intentionally get "lost". There is no cell coverage and it is pretty remote. Basically it's the back side of the Snowies. Basically. You can also hit it from Saratoga. That's all I can say.:face-icon-small-coo

Good luck in your quest
