That's what they tell you, as they raise your taxes! Every state claims that they are recognized as the best...
I'm all for lowering taxes but it comes down to this.
1) use taxes to improve the roads and listen to people btch about spending tax money.
Or
2) Don't fix the roads and listen to people btch about why the roads are so beat up.
It's a lose-lose with every state. Not trying to defend any state, just giving you guys a perspective from what I encounter.
I think I'm gonna move to Wyoming, no income tax!
Salt does nothing to avoid accidents.
Driving in a safe manner avoids accidents.
If it is slippery you drive slower.
People have forgotten how to drive accordingly because we seem to feel that roads are impassible unless they are totally dry.
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the plows, it's the f_cking salt.
We need to stop using that f_cking salt!

How do you spend a million dollars investigating a fatality. It is this simple. The car left the road resulting in a rollover. The driver was thrown out of the vehicle as it rolled. The driver died. End of investigation. Or here's one. The vehicle hit a gaurd rali head on which resulted in the death of the driver and 2 passengers. Now pay me my 2 million dollars. I have always laughed at the conclusion of a 9 month investigation by the TSB as to why a plane crashed. Pilot error! Ya think? it took 9 months to figure that one out?
Investigation is just one aspect of it...
I wish I was making this crap up!

they drive at a snails pace while the spreaders turns at approx 5 rpm. A total waste.

This may be true, but it is not costing the state this amount of money. You're talking insurance cost medical costs funerals and what have you. All costs associated with a accident. Not costs to the state. Your original post stated that it cost the (state).
this is on purpose....25 mph is considered on the fast end if applying salt. Anything faster than that the salt will just bounce off the road, the spreader usually stays static when normal plowing, the spreader is typically only used at intersections.
Very true, I also stated it costs 750,000-mil, not the near 1.5 that the report shows. That chart was the first one I found in a pinch, couldn't find the other one as the five minutes I invested into finding that data was about 4 minutes longer than I wanted to spend for an irrelevant argument.
Salt has a great characteristic to it in a way that it can eat through ice in a pretty quick manner. SO when a roadway becomes ice covered, a snow plow will make a round applying the material, it then will allow half hour- hour for the salt to do its thing and then the plow will come back through with his scraper down and bust up the broken down ice and deem the roadway significantly safer(in theory), saving the teenage girl texting on her phone....the guy late for work....the guy with bald tires...the list goes on....from getting into an accident.
Again, i'm just trying to state facts for you guys. I don't want to deal with salt on my rigs anymore than you guys do.

Here is a fact to use. 30 years ago they used sand mixed about 50 50 with coal ash for spreading on the streets. It worked great for traction (the sand) and the coal ash worked as a catalyst to break the snowpack from the road, it also (the ash) was a dark color which resulted in excellent snow and ice melt when )as it always does) the sun comes out. This combo did not ruin cars and turn them into a pile of rust in 7 years. Now they use salt mixed with gravel and very little sand. This crap causes many problems such as rotted cars, broken windshields and chipped paint (which hastens the rotting) from the gravel, in the spring before all the gravel is cleaned up it is unsafe to ride anything with 2 wheels. I don't give 2 ****s about the 17 year old texting or the guy with bald tires or the guy who is late for work. Why is it we have to protect the irresponsible at the cost of the responsible ones. I want my stuff to last a long time as I cannot afford to replace it every 7 years. And no matter how much you wash underneath you cannot wash out all areas that salt gets into effectively. Trust me I am the king at washing underneath vehicles.
Usually boils down to cost analytics, product availability. MN actually uses straight salt, counties and municipalities are different but deal with lower speeds or lower traffic volumes.
For underneath vehicles I've been spraying a product called fluid film on all the metal parts. Usually apply it in the fall before winter hits. Seems to work pretty well. Frame on my truck looks new yet.

Nebraska has been using these. The one in the video just is using the tow plow but ours have plow up front and the tow plow and will gravel at same time as well as put down liquid.. I talked to a driver and he said other than the state specking them with to LOW OF HP they are fantastic.

never happen. way to efficient for MN.
That would require another blade on the left side, likely an available option. Visibility would be better with it on the left. IMO
