Start sled withou key?

IN Cooke for the week and last night someone decided to stick a screwdriver or something into ignition and screw it all up so I can get my key in it. Can I just pull plug on back side of it and still start sled? Don't know if this is related to tire vandalism mentioned in Montana riding forum or not.

Just need to update as I don't want any rumors starting...ignition was fine...what I thought was damage was just factory after looking at buddies sled. No vandalism though.

Insert the key about 1/2 of the way. Turn to on. Remove key. Now you never need it again, until you sell it. Unless you have e-start, of course. Never loose it in a stuck/unstuck, either.

Just so happened to be sitting in the shop with a 17, 16, 15, 12 model year. Only one I could get to do that was the 12. I'm not very good at sneaky stuff:face-icon-small-dis

I ran a tether for my key. I got a small coiled tether with a clip on 1 end and a ring on the other for the key. Hardware store key section. Gay I know

I had a spare key from a sled at work that I modified. With a little filing I made a master key that fit all the sleds we had at that time. There aren't that many factory keys either. We had at least 3 sleds that used the same key btw.

meanwhile last night 10 polaris axys 800 went missing!!! rofl cant hardly believe you can still do that all the electronics and still just unplug and go{if nate18 didn't have a axys before .... HE DOES NOW!!!}

Buy an extra key on eBay.... They're $10. Be sure to see how many "dots" are on the key. There's 5 different, maybe 4 combinations of keys.

Poo had 5 key combos. Cat had two. Neither stops you from running a sled. For pure easy to steal security, hard to beat doo's DESS. Every tether is unique, and programmed to the MPEM. Of course, DESS isn't without it's challenges, but easy to steal and flip is not one of them. Owned my share of summits since 1999, and had a single doo DESS tether programmed to start any of them. FWIW.

I call that smart. I also have a tether on my key on my 2012 with the integrated kill switch/throttle. I have an o-ring around my kill switch, which essentially makes it useless, and always turn my sled off with the key. (I use a tether). I once had the key catch my glove and fall into the snow, when in the deep back woods. Fortunately, I found it, but have ran a key tether since then. Mine is just a zip tie from the key to the pull loop on that small windshield storage bag.

I had the key come out when turning off my 14 RMK. Just enough friction between rubber coated glove (type I use unloading) and key for it to come out of switch. Bounced on dash, fell down the steering post hole. Must have landed between airbox and gastank. Never able to find or fish out. Now I have a large ring on key,and a extra zip tied under the hood.

Clipped it to the brake line under my bar bag where the harness runs along steering post.
