Stanley/ Smiley Creek

Anyone have any good lead on sledding spots near Smiley Creek/Stanley...

Some friends and I are in the area and went out exploring today without much luck finding anything good.

Thanks

I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.:eek:

Not sure where you were riding but, there is no shortage of awesome riding areas up there. Get yourself a good map and start exploring :D:D

Find someone local to help you out. There is a lot of riding in that area....salmon, frenchman, smiley....its endless, just have to get to the headwaters

Perk has it right. The headwaters area offers about the best for all-around terrain. You have meadows and small hills around the base of Galena Pass and the further you get up toward Vienna Mine, the mountains get bigger and the snow gets deeper. The area can be tough if you don't know where you are going. I would offer to help out, since I will be up in the area this weekend, but I am already committed to going out with several buddies in an undisclosed location somewhere to the east of Stanley. Like Mike said, some of the locals don't like to let out the secrets spots.

Speaking of that, Mike; How has the Wood River Valley been this year? I got one Clayton ride in over the New Years and it was great. Mill Creek and the Yankee Fork actually has more Snow than Vienna so far and the locals are eating it up. Quite a year so far.

How is the snow coverage?
Thinking about going the 19th for a week.
Try pole creek and 4th of July creek, out of Smiley Creek

Not too bad. As I was driving over Galena the other day, it looks like the wind has drifted thing pretty bad up by the Headwaters area. Some of the bare ridges look to be pretty exposed still, but that is usally the case until the heavy snow sets in. Vienna shows around 5 to 6 feet so things should be covered up pretty well.

We went out east of Stanley a week ago, and we did not get too high (above 8000'), mainly because I had a couple of newbies with 500s. Even with that we had a blast with about a foot of powder over about a 2 foot base. Add to that a sunny day and it was perfect for showing the newbies the ropes.

I'll see if I can get some pics up here in a little bit.
