Stanley? Pole creek? Smiley creek? Surrounding areas?

Either no one has been up, or everyone is keeping it quiet. Actually, there are not too many Snowesters that ride the area. I guess that it is a long ways from most populated areas.

My parents will be traveling through Stanley tonight now that 21 is open. I'll talk to them and let you know.

Avy danger was really high up there last weekend (hence the road closure). I haven't talked to anyone that's been up that way - though we're thinking of coming in from Bear Valley this weekend.

went out pole creek the last two weekends, and snow was considerably better last sunday after all the snow came. Snow towards the end of pole creek is great, but watch for rocks.

Does anyone have a map of the Smiley Creek area that shows where we can not ride? Besides the obvious wilderness area. Thanks.

I do not know if the snowmobile club puts out any maps for the area or not. The best thing that I know if is the travel map that the SNRA puts out. If you are headed up through Sun Valley, you can stop in at the SNRA headquarters. Also, the businesses around Stanley shoud have them. The last thing you can do is stop in at Williams Sports or the Smiley Creek Lodge and ask.

From what I remember, the only places that are off-limits in the Upper Salmon River Drainage is the Sawtooth Wilderness and the Frank Church Wilderness. Once you get over on the Wood River or East Fork of the Salmon River side, I know that there are other areas that are closed.

Sorry that I could not help more.

I was up on tues. and it was pretty good a couple of rocks still a bit of a prob. but with sat and sundays dump it should now be awsome. There is a elk wintering closure around the south side of 4th of July creek to stay away from.

Cougar Mountain Snowmobile club is having a run up to Stanley this weekend. Talked to some people that went into Bear Valley from the upper parking lot and the trails were good there, the parking lot was full though. They tried to go from Lowman but the groomer hadn't been through and the trail was terrible. Here is a link I found to a map from Stanley's chamber of commerce.

I rode into Stanley this morning from Lowman. Met the groomer about 9 miles into the ride and has fresh groomed trail the whole way. Awesome day, on trail and off. Snow is great, can go anywhere. Nice & sunny, day.

The groomer told me he wasn't going to groom into Deadwood, just turning around to redo the trail to stanley, then local trails and Smiley creek in the morning.

Great conditions, it will be a great weekend. Going for a night ride now...

Are you talking about the White Clouds? Man, I thought that they would have more than that. Where did you go specifically? I would think that Pole Creek should be pretty good considering that the Galena Snotel shows about 5'.

Hello
How is the snow? Looks like it has been warm. Was thinking of going next week but with the warm temps may wait for some new snow.
Any riding reports?

I was up last weekend, they could use some snow, higher elevations were still soft and up to your thighs. We rode 4 Th of July area, north faces and in the shade were still soft, ridges were wind blown. All in all it was near perfect conditions, considering it was the first sunny weekend for my group this season.
Happy hunting, there is lots of untouched stuff around there..
