Stampede Snowpark Parking lot

Im wanting to take the RV up to the mountains this weekend, and I was thinking about just going to the Crystal Springs snowpark, but wondering if there its just a mud fest in there right now? Anyone been there recently?

For some unknown reason they tend to plow all the snow from the lot, so if it's been snowing it will be mud by days end. We as snowmobilers know to have snow tires and chains if needed and can deal with 6"-12" of snow in the lot, why they plow to the dirt I'll never know. Mike, get there early, get a spot in the upper lot at the south end and you can get to the trailhead without riding the mud.

Oh yeah, I haven't been there in so long I forgot they plow the crap out of it. Im not worried about having to ride the mud to get to the trail head, I just don't want to be camping out in the mud since we are bringing the dogs and the wife's etc. Just doesn't sound like a good setup lol.

I've seen a lot of folks bring a bale or two of hay with them, bust them open, and spread the hay out over the mud.

Sort of an outdoor thatch carpet if you will...just a thought.

I meeting a buddy up there with his wife, so the "wifes" will need to be satisfied, and mud wont do it lol.

Hope their riding with you so some other sledders don't sneak in & try to "SATISFY" them when your not around!:bolt:

I've also seen "Astroturf" rolled out, seemed to do the trick, maybe that with the hay.

Used AstroTurf ( green indoor/ out cheep stuff) at bakerfest a couple times and the mud bubbles thru it. But better than nothing.

So would you need to clean up the hay when you leave? I would think it alright to leave it there?

I cant imagine even the most devout tree huggers bitching about it...hay is after all nothing but dry long grass and its completely biodegradable.

And west side hay I think you all are actually thinking of straw...is full of weeds. The tree huggers will eat you alive if you leave it strewn all over.

The USDA Forest Service passed order 36 CFR 261.58(t) to help prevent the introduction of new weed seeds into designated wilderness areas and all Forest Service lands. Effective January 1, 2009, commercially processed feed pellets and/or certified weed-free straw and feed are now required for all U.S. Forest Service lands in Pacific Northwest National Forests, managed by the USDA Forest Service.

Mike I think if you parked on the far right side(going in) nearest to the mountains you will be fine. Park lengthwise with your door to the right and you should be able to step out onto 2-3 feet of packed hard snow that they never plow. You "should" normally park nose in or tail in but if you are camping I would think people would understand why you did it.
