1 of the many reasons we call it POSERS Pass!!

H20SKE...

What day were you there? Is there a detour around the 54 closure yet, or do you still have to go toward lost lake? How much snow/ice is left in the parking lot (if any)?

Sorry to hear about about your bad experience Mr speed racer. It kind of reminds me of a comic I saw in the newspaper a few years ago. A skier standing looking at a sign that said "watch out for cliff", but there was there was no cliff anywhere around. In the next frame, a snowboarder comes flying over the skiers head, and on the front of the snowboarders shirt it said "Cliff".

yes there is a detour around...they have a map posted on the road closed sign. parking lot still had a little ice on it...cell tower area still had untouched areas still pretty hard though

A few jerks ruin it for all

It's those friggin "pit racers'' that think they are so fast that screw it up for all of us. It's 25 for that first 1/2 mile or so for a reason, It's a heavily used multi use area. We're going to loose that first section someday if these idiots dont wise up. We've been fighting this for many years, It almost got plowed this year, next year who knows, SLOW DOWN , dont give the forest service , skiers, snow shoers and dog sledders any more bullets, they use them against us.

Us dog sledders don't bother with bullets... we just send some dogs over to pee on your tires and chew the wiring harness off your hitch.

Seems like there's quite a few kids in and out of that lot snowmobiling w/ their parents. You'd think people would consider that at least.

Don't send them my way! :D

I'm one of those riders that will pull over and shut the sled off while your team goes by us in the opposite direction.

When we do pass you, my wife and I will go on the outside of the trail as far as we can and as quietly as our sleds will allow.

I love watching those doggies work and I don't want to spook 'em.

What a quiet way to get around the mountains.

I've never had a dog team handler give us anything other than a smile.

Snow/Grooming

Just wondering how stampede is havent been up there since all the rain it seems like stampede got hammered, is there any fresh snow, are the trails nice and smooth. Was going to head up this last weekend, but figured with all the nice weather the parking lot would be packed.

Sounds like your white walls and your trailer lights are safe. :)

FWIW I personally prefer machines to just keep going- not breaking the sound barrier of course, but 15mph+ is fine by me- and just get passes over with cleanly and fast. I don't like to hold anyone up, the dogs are trained, and stopping means they'll sometimes angle over to get some attention from somebody new instead of just getting on with the job. Of course if you WANT paw prints on your suit we can arrainge that too.... :)

I'm very serious about safety with the number of kids at Crystal Springs though. There were a lot of RVs parked there yesterday with whole households on board. I'm stoked to see families doing ANYTHING together in the outdoors, but the way some peeps drive close to/around in the pit must be at least a little nerve-wracking for parents.

Great info coming from the source.. Lot's of times we all guess at the right thing, but hearing it straight takes away the question. Woof...!

Stampede

I was up there on Sunday with "The Suspects" and was dissapointed from an access/snow depth standpoint (we knew it ahead of time).
We joined a buddy up there who was doing the V-Day camping thing...
Kudos to the groomer though because the reason people were exceeding speeds is due to the trails being Daytona 500 smooth - thank you.
We rode around looking to get into some backcountry but the lack of snow kept us from those spots.
There was alot of helmet-off breaks and "where do you wanna go now" statements, but any day up in the mountains beats a day on the couch or a trip to Home Depot.

I didn't see alot of trail activity and the parking lot was light due to the obvious reasons.

Anyway - sorry you had a bad experience - pray for more snow...BTW, I am "Nice People"

x2 i also try and stay way to one side and slow down not to interupt the the dogs. by slow down i am not refering to the 25 mph zone close to the park. i am just waiting for that area to get closed down because of just that reason.
