St Helens--??

Who has been up to St Helens lately and can give me just a tad of info--Please:)

Is the snow park up past cougar plowed out--Want to know if I can get a MH and 4 place in there? I have not been there before and would like to do a weekend there. I also hear that the last storm dumped a considerable amount of snow and has helped bring the total up quite nicely.

Thanks for any help.

I was up on Monday and Thursday. Thursday, both parking lots were plowed and it looked good. It was a little icy in the morning but not bad. Patches of snow and pavement driving in. They had also groomed the trails I think on Tuesday and it was a nice ride in.

Went up on Friday riding and snow kiting. Road is icy and narrow but open. Marble parking lot all plowed and groomer was on his way up Friday evening. That place fills up on weekend. Best to arrive Friday evening to get parking spot.

Thanks for all the info folks. I am thinking thursday night or friday morning to get the MH in.

All this snow is awesome. Looks like snow all week--as long as they are wrong about the snow levels at the end of the week.

i like it wet sometimes?

was up there with pilebuck and he's rite on w/the heavy snow (wet) hopfully the new storm will bring in some dryer pow to the area . when we got back to the warming hut our gloves were SOAKING WET along w/our upper half. we had heard that there was no more plowing the road , so might have to camp down at main road like last year.ride hard be safe.

Sunday - road was barricaded off. No plowing - for the rest of the year, according to the sheriff. However - we had drove our truck up on Saturday night (about 2 ft new powder) and there was a motorhome with trailer staying the night. Would guess that they had to be plowed out. Suggested to the guy that it would be best to get off the mountain - but he wanted to stay.

The people in the motorhome were taken out in a snow cat. The rescue guy said they were out of money and it was supposed to snow for the next three days so they were not going to plow the roads. On the way out on sunday it was plowed to ape caves, thats it.

The can't possibly be out of money yet.... The haven't had a reason to plow until now????

H20SKE- Marble moutain snopark is an awesome place to stay. If they haven't plowed it out you could still stay at the cougar snopark. It is a longer ride into the Lahar area but still good riding and the cougar snopark is closer to the West side riding areas...

Hopefully, the will plow out the marble mountain snopark as that is a much better party spot... :beer;

Got a spare sled? I'll come along... :D

Went up yesterday afternoon. Cougar snow park is plowed. Marble Closed. Lots and lots of deep snow. Peanut butter until about 4000 ft, then 4-5 ft of fluff. Took several hours and lots of attempts just to get up the big draw on the west side. Then it got dark and no vis. Some one had a nice trail to get up and play at the airport today.

Be VERY careful!!!!! Big time avy DANGER. There is a weak layer about 2.5 ft down, looks like about 2 inchs of corn snow/ Ice pellets!!!

helens

went up wed also rhoward is right you better be experienced with long track if you decide to go up from cougar if not take the west trail to marble the roads are plowed to marble but creagan had his blower in the middle of road with a road closed sign hopefully they let us to marble this weekend

this is the reply from the forest service.

We too are frustrated that the funds for plowing the road to Marble Mt have been exhausted for the second year in a row. Snowplowing is a state run program in which the Forest Service is a cooperator. Sno Park permits and snowmobile registrations fund the plowing and grooming programs. Each year we apply to the state and compete statewide for funding. Once the funding allotment is set, the state issues plowing and grooming contracts. We work with the contractor to try and stretch the funding out over the winter, however it is a state contract. Once the funding is exhausted we notify the state to see if they can find snow plowing funds from sites that have not exceeded their allotment. We will raise the matter again with the state, that they need to increase the allotment for this site. Unfortunately the overall budget for snowplowing statewide is based on sales of permits and registrations. If sales are down, their will be less money for plowing next year. Other options are to reduce snowplowing funds from other sites, however every sno park has individuals such as yourself, supporting their sno park. We are working with the state to see if their are any options to get Marble Mt open again.
