SPOT users ???

I received a SPOT (personal satelight tracker) for a bday gift. It seems kinda cool, looking at their website I could not figure out what subscription to get. So.........those of you that have them what subscription do you get? Anyone used one alot? How well do they work?

Bought one a few weeks back, works great. Send an OK message home to my wife at end of each day of riding.

I have subscribed to all svcs...which is the standard $100 per year for 911/Help/OK, and also subscribed to tracking svc for the addtional $50 which also works great. Have not tried to upload tracks yet as I also have a GPS.

PM me if you need more specifics on how to set it up.

I do believe we have all the services as well. We use it every time we ride, and will use it this summer while ATV'n. Gary happy LATE birthday....urgh I am such a bad cuz....;)

yeah I did all services too, wife can watch the tracking service while I am out riding...and the insurance service, for $7.95...why not? could mean the difference and that little amount is worth the $7.95 to get ALL forms of help out to me...

Accidental button pressing?

I purchased a SPOT tracker and got the basic service plus the search and rescue insurance. Didn't think the tracking feature was necessary because I have a garmin that will track and I can just download it to my computer when I get home.

Anyone else see the buttons getting pushed accidentally as a problem? It looks like the 911 feature would be difficult to accidentally push but the "help" one might be fairly easy. Anyone had issues with this? I was also thinking of taking the batteries out and keeping them in the case with it so it absolutely wouldn't send any false signals.

when I activated mine last fall it was on a free service promotion, so I got the tracking too. only had to pay the $7.99 for the optional insurance, don't need that in Canada tho. will only subscribe to the service without tracking when it expires, for much the same reason as yours.

the "HELP", "911", and "OK" buttons must be pressed and held for 5 seconds to activate that feature. the "OK" and "ON" buttons are the only ones not recessed like the other 2. heard of a fella finding his on after being in his bag, but it only takes one touch to turn it on. I would think an accidental 5 second press would be unlikely, but anything is possible I suppose.
