the spots are nice and do work, i put in points and was able to retreave the info on the computor, never used it for an emergency, other then that all i have to say about them is do not pay them with a credit card, they automaticly charge your card, and its hell getting them to cancel
 
In the limited amount of reading I've done so far they're saying that the 2 gets better satellite access than the 1. Some protection for the 911 button to solve the problem of accidental emergency calls. To me that should have been a "No Brainer" from the beginning with these things. Over all design of the Spot in general is not very well thought out. Great concept....poor design. Still gonna buy one though! :beer;
 
Bought my spot 1 from the states when thee was a special on down there, never one up here. Had to send it to a US address though and go pick it up.
 
The SPOT 1 was kind of a brick. The new model seems to have improved the user interface and performance. It is also smaller and lighter.

Deschutes What is the promo code that is used for a free year of tracking. The fellow at spot didn't know about it. He said it's a 6 or 8 digit number. Do you know the number? Thanks
 
Just recieved a email from Sled safety coop my spot 2 is being shipped and it contains the promo code for a year free tracking to enter when you register it, great service!

The SPOT units were shipped out and are on their way. They were shipped priority mail, so they should arrive early next week (at least in the US). The promo codes are taped to the front of the product. You should have received multiple emails providing status updates. The emails were sent to the address used when you purchased the unit. If you are still unsure of your status, please PM me and I will get back to you ASAP.

The good news is that we are able to continue offering the free year of add-on tracking with each unit purchased. We will be placing another order in the next week or so, so get your orders in now if you are interested. Shipping is still free to the US and Canada. The new unit looks cool and I am excited to start using it.

I just got my SPOT 2 today. I opened the box, registered it, set up the tracking/contact info turned it on, and did a "check in". I had an "OK" message within minutes and the unit was inside my house next to a window. So far I am impressed with this new unit. I will post some pics and more info later.

I like the gray color a lot, but it would potentially be harder to find if you dropped it in the snow or it was laying around.
