spliting the gas bill, what do you think?

I'm prett lucky. I've got guys that usually help out with paying. Sucks when I get a couple that ride and don't pay dick all(can I say that??) Tell him to load up the dakota next time with your enclosed trailer and stuff, and pay him half what he thought it should be?

Our trailer is down for a repair (not enclosed). We went riding locally yesterday with the brother-in-law. We live maybe 2 miles apart. Even though he is family, and he asked us to ride and told us he tow us in his enclosed, we filled his sled up with gas. We appreciated that he had to go a bit out of his way for us, and that it took more of his time with the unloading/loading thing. :)

If we were ever to do a longer trip, and take his enclosed, we'd definitely be splitting the gas bill with him. It's only right to pay your fair share.

boy, with friends like that who needs enemies:D the way you described it you must have really gone off on him. I don't know if that was necessary but I would not ride with him anymore, period:mad:

I agree with noob, use his dakota to pull your trailer, pay half for gas and when the tranny goes out tell him to bad:face-icon-small-win Then don't invite him again:mad: On our last trip out west (about 2200 miles round trip) we left full and my truck was full at the end. Normally we all put equal amounts in a envelope. This time the other three guys split the fuel, it wasn't necessary but it makes it easier next time to offer to drive.:) I think you had every right to be po'ed at that dude.

If you have to keep score that friendship has more than likely run its coarse. Ive never had a situation like this sleding, hunting is a different story. I had a very similar situation...Im down one friend because of it. There was alot more drama Ill spare ya.

i dont charge riding buds to haul there sled 10 miles to the mountain.once in a while is ok.all winter might be a different story.but since you did ask for money.your buds answer was gay.

Short trips, we'll alternate rigs every trip and walk away... (works good with 2 completely set up rigs)

For a longer trip, if we use his rig, I'll gladly give at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the total bill.

Our rule is if it's your truck/rig you don't pay for fuel. It works out good for us and we take turns using our own tow setups.
Same goes for fishing trips, your boat and truck you don't pay for any fuel.

I pretty much agree w/what everybody has written...never been an issue w/the peeps I ride with.

The true lesson here is to communicate these things in advance to avoid the issue altogether.

Same way we do it if there's a group, driver/owner doesn't pay. If there's just two of you then you gotta split it. We use a envelope or empty check box for funds, everyone puts the same amount in. Driver has it full to start with, riders pay for fuel and fill it up when back. If there's extra, split up evenly, if there's not enough, everyone coughs up the same. Never had a problem this way.

Tell your buddy to pack sand.

thanx guys, don't mean to bring my frustrations to the forum but man! i like the idea of only paying what my honda would take:) now if i can only find a sled deck for my accord:) dan, don't be telling everyone i'm a d!ck, some people should have to find out on their own!!!

Ron, This isn't your old buddy that spends quite a bit of time in the tree wells is it? If so, you've been riding with him for a long time hmm... Oh, and everyone pay attention now Ron Allen is a really nice guy.. really. No matter how much of a _ _ _ _ he may come across on the Forum. I'm not supposed to call him a D!ck anymore. Dan

This thread ranks right up there with the "My buddy pitched a loaf (dropped a steamer, grew a tail, . . . ) next to my trailer, what do I do?"

Throughout the season I ride 2 to 3 times weekly(this season I have had a few stretches of 4 to 6 days in a row) and drive 97% of the time.
I have never expected or asked the people that ride with me to pay.
The way I figure is I was going anyways so it makes no difference. Sometimes
someone will offer to fill up my sled or throw a couple bucks my way and that's appreciated but not expected or required. I'm just glad to have my good buddies on the hill with me that day and that good enough for me.

It does probably make a difference that it only takes 20 minutes to 1 hr tops to get to my riding areas. But if I was going on a road trip and having to travel 6 to 22 hrs to ride I would be sure talk it out with my buddies before we left on the trip and not just showing up to the pumps and ASSUMING their paying.

The 3% of the time that I am riding with someone else I will always fill up there sled for the day.

But as I said earlier if your heading to ride anyways then what's it issue,
you were going anyways right????

But if it's a planed trip then the details of the trip should be discussed before you leave. .02
