went riding with one of my buds this weekend, took my truck and enclosed trailer. have the trailer all set up to stay in, my buddie didn't want to take his motorhome up for just one night. always top off just before we leave and then fill up when we get back. well got back hit the gas station and filled up, told my buddie what his half of the gas bill was and he said he shouldn't have to pay half because if he would have brought his truck it would have used less gas so he should only have to pay half of what his truck would????:( WTF, his little dakota wouldn't tow my enclosed on the flats let alone up the mountain. well anyone who knows me knows i'm not the nicest guy when i think your trying to give me the shorts... didn't know where he thought he didn't deserve to pay his share, PERIOD! told him to give me half of what his little pos would have used and that he was never going to ride with me up with me again. was wondering what you guys think, like i said not i'm a very nice person when i fill i'm not being treated fairly and my temper goes pretty fast, was i justified for my actions or was i just being a d!ck???

our group uses an envelope, EVERYONE puts the same amount of money in it. This way when the fuel gets paid for its all fair. Works the best for us.

your buddy is a cheap mother clucker!!!:beer;

your reaction was definitely justified... next time i would tell him that he can meet you wherever you are going riding and then go the complete opposite direction, maybe then he will get the picture that he is not welcome any more!!

cheap bastard is all i can say! he should consider the wear and tear you put on your auto for each trip. and pay you at least half of fuel if not more, cover more for food, pay more for the hotel and parking or tolls. we have four bridge tolls we pay going up to ride in ontario. i'm lucky most of our group try to pay more than just their fair share, being unselfish and greatfull for the opportunity to go riding. time to tell your "buddy" you are done traveling with him.

if he is the one with the motorhome, tell him you are only going to pay what it would take to haul your sled up on the roof of your honda civic, and the way you see it, he owes you to drive that up. PAY UP SUCKER, KARMA IS A BIOTCH! we have dropped guys for saftey reasons, always being late, whining too much. but to not pay your fair share at least.... no brainer, our group wouldnt even put up with it for a second. ski

I guess I am a little meaner than you.
You are more than justified. I would have been much nicer. Said, oh, ok.
Set up the next trip. Take him where ever you decided to go and tell him his part of the gas is used up and he will have to find his own way home.

If he wants to go with you, he can pay you what he owes you from the last trip as well as this one before you load his sled up.

Would be his last trip with me. I've had a guy try the "you paid for the last tank, I,ll get this one" number. Of course it was only 1/2 a tank. This is with me supplying truck, trailer AND sleds. Didn't work-he didn't ride again either! I never ask for anthing other than fuel/lodging expenses to be split. I've paid for all of some trips for friends who just needed to get away and couldn't afford it but that was my choice. I also gaurantee my friends that if they don't have a great time I pay for everything, Never had to pay yet. To those that pony up and pay for oil, mileage, etc., thats great it's not expected by me but it's nice to be appreciated. Few people realize the maintenance time and $$ that go into the truck and trailer much less the sleds. Also stopped riding with anyone I didn't feel could survive on their own if stranded or know what to do if I was seriously injured.

That co ck sucker woulda been riding his sled home from the gas station with all his gear straped to his back.

It isn't just fuel. l change oilry 5,000 miles. A trip to revy usually uses 1/5 of that. Wear and tear on the truck is around 25 cents a km plus gas.

When I get a ride, I pay way more than 1/2. If we stay overnight, I will pay the room. It is still a lot cheaper than wearing out my truck every trip. It is also a lot easier on the brain to sit in the passenger seat, have a nap, arrive at the staging area ready to ride instead of after driving 4-5 hours.

You need different friends.

How fast do think he would've paid if you stopped on the side of the road and started leaving his sled and gear on the side of the road.:D

Your dead on with your feelings, douche bags that won't pay there way and not more deserve to get stranded at home looking for some one to ride with.

In our group it depends on size (amount of people) but this is how we do it:

The vehicle starts out full for sure, then the person who owns the truck doesn't pay for any fuel the rest of the time in the truck on that trip. We then fill the truck up at the end. This works great if you have more then just one other guy.

If it's just two of us then the cost is split down the middle with it starting out full and ending up full.

Someone has to drive and there has to be a trailer. With one other guy it's either going to be you or him driving because anything will work, when you start getting more and more people you have to use the vehicle that has the most room and then that person is off the hook. As for the trailer, we don't consider that into the equation.

The guy that drives in a big group shouldn't have to put fuel in it. He has to maintain the vehicle, put brakes on it, change oil and so on and so forth.

This guy in your case wouldn't be invited on any more trips together if it was in our group, he could drive himself but he wouldn't be included in the big picture.

Another thing is don't always drive your rig, say I'll go but I'm not taking my stuff. It will wake people up that is for sure.

If he is on here....call him out. That way the rest of us know who he is. I'm sure NONE of us would want him riding in our group. Sheesh....what a PUNK!!!
