Spi or Oem pistons??

It is time for a set of pistons in
my 800 Ski-doo. I am thinking
about trying a set of spi's, or
should i stay with ski-doo, any
one have thoughts or experiences.
Thanks

Spi is a great piston for replacement in the skidoo...thats all that a friend of mine installs in his rebuilds for customers...worked great in my 2000 700 with increased compression head and a little porting..OH yeah half the cost tooo

pistons

Seen a post a while ago about MCB pistons, they looked good also. Duel ring replacement pistons complete with rings, caged bearings, pins, and gasket kit. $300 I think was the price??? I have heard the SPI are a good choice also...Dino

i dont know about in your 800 but i have put cpi teflon coated pistons in my 780 and my 925 that both turn 8800 to 9200 rpms and they work great have also used them in sevral customers sleds they work great and are alot less money than the oem pistons have a great day Dan;)

pistons

do not skimp on pistons go with stock i had a pair of spi and rk tek both ran perfect for about 500 miles than both failed / stock form i put on about 2000 miles no fail. k

Stock single ring pistons arent so good IMHO. They last because they fit so loose, don't make as much power as duel ring pistons. The trick is to have the clyinders mated to your pistons. Ya cant just throw a exchange clyd. at a piston and think the clearances are good or slam a aftermarket piston in a stock clyd. That has been my expereance. Duel ring pistons help the 800 doos out a bunch...love mine and wont go back to stock....Dino

so if you order the standard replacement piston for the 800R. spi part number shown in western power sports:

54-9243PS

do you get a single ring or a dual ring piston?

Running RKT replacement pistons in mine, for the $300 or whatever they were they are really nice pistons! Dual ring, coated skirts, but they are forged so let the sled warm up all the way. I heard about them loosing the ring locator pins, but only heard a couple of these incidents, no issues so far, about 600 miles on them so far.

Just bought two OEM piston/ring - cost $165 each. Maybe the dealer marked them up more? Anybody got a 800HO cylinder?

No, that's what they cost and are by far better quality than aftermarket!!

SPI's are way cheaper for a reason...

I ended up running OEM pistons in my 05 800. It was more but I tend to trust oem more than some of the aftermarket out there.

165 is a good deal... my dealer bent me over at 190 a set!

I put the MCB pistions in my 700 these are very different, I would've put these in my 800 kind of a trick piston, bottom ring acts like stock while top ring is part of dome, so you have the effects of a single ring piston which gives more power than dual but you have top ring to guide for less slop, i did put weisco forged dual in my 800 they lasted for 500 miles then they lost the locater pin and I hooked a ring in 50 yards, so I big bored it with cast pistons I'm done with forged, If I were to do it again it would be MCB or stock, polaris and skidoo use the same manufacturer for pistons, if that tells you anything??
Hope this helps in your diffcult decision:face-icon-small-fro
