Speaking of etiquette - Centennial

I've been biting my tongue on this one all season, mainly because it's not just snowmobilers doing this and I didn't want to sound like I'm picking on anyone, but this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

The speed limit in Centennial is 30 MPH. I see vehicles speeding through town every single day. There are children, mine included, who cross this highway on a daily basis to go to school, visit friends, etc. This may be a state highway, but it happens to run through our neighborhood. I know many of you have families of your own and I dare say if you saw a truck hauling a full-size trailer (or any car for that matter) driving through your neighborhood at 50+ MPH you'd be a little pi**ed off, too.

Please slow down!!!

Slowing down....

I agree, besides if your going that fast, you'll miss the friendly store and century bar and all the good times to be had there. I thought I would do a little sucking up before my next visit.;)

Also, I have been known to cross that highway drunk and or hungover, and I don't want to get run over either.

They serve liquor in Centennial??? I can't seem to remember for some reason

Seriously though, yes I have noticed the problem too when at the gas station and getting back onto the highway. I've also been guilty of hitting the speed limit signs still going 60-65. It's a long sort of boring drive there, then suddenly you're in town and laying on the brakes.

I too have small children and respect your point, I'll try to be extra cautious next time I'm that way. I apologize if I've been guilty of driving too fast.

Didnt you lose your gas pumps to a "High speed" corner taker?

I agree with you here...not to mention that road stays shaded and usually has some good ice on it. Besides you gotta be planning on stopping for a beer and Jenn will buy if you do;)

if that darn cop would just do his job!!!
last time i looked in his car he was drinking on the job.

If someone would move the cop car now and then that would help. We should start a fundraiser to get a "new" car. Not to offend anyone, but it wouldn't take much to upgrade.

I hear that you need to do more than a little sucking up before you go back there again!?!?!?!?!?!

where's the tac strips when we need them?? lol

being new to the town of Centennial, but from the centennial valley, i have noticed the old Barney Fife Patrol car, since it has become a icon for centennial, what would be the chance of Wyo-tech doing a refurbish, then we could ask the sheriffs dept to install a radar gun and camera for those with limited mental capacity for obeying the local posted speed limits, might even hand out a couple to my family as well, lol.

We're all pretty aware that the old patrol car could use some upgrading, but the problem is that anyone who comes out here on a regular basis knows the car is just a decoy. What we really need is more enforcement of the laws. Unfortunately I see the officers speeding through town about as often as everyone else. Thanks for the positive feedback, now I just need to find the skiers' forum so I can yell at them, too.

Note to Kickball - a lot more sucking up certainly wouldn't hurt before you get here next week. :D And don't forget my door!

door...

hmmm. I was hoping it fixed itself. I tried putting Egger and Mark in charge, but they proved to be just as unreliable as me. What color should I paint it, yellow for caution?:D

Highway patrol parked by the cop car this morning and nailed 3 people in less than 20 minutes. Could have nailed a dozen more if he'd stuck around a while. In my opinion someone should be here every Saturday morning and afternoon all season long. Feels like that's about the only way we'll ever get the message across to everyone.

Friendlystore,

I am sure that the highway patrol would like to enforce the speed limit and other laws in Centennial a lot more, but Albany county is very large and there are many miles of highway. I-80 as busy as it is takes a lot of the Troopers time. Have you spoke to any of the local Troopers and voiced your concerns to them, or have you asked for extra enforcement? Another thing you could do is speak to local state legislators and push for more Troopers to be hired. There is only a small number of Highway Patrolmen in Albany County, and they are trying to do their best for the public.
Reading your posts, they seem a little negative and I am just trying to put a postitive spin on this to help find a solution to your troubles.

I'm wondering if part of the speeding may be coming from the fact that word got out about KICKBALL buying drinks at the friendly even when he's not there??????

I'm not trying to be negative toward the law enforcement. I've commuted from Laramie in all directions and am completely aware that, especially in winter, I-80 and 287 require a lot more of the law's presence than this little town does. However, this is the first time since I've been here that I've seen anyone park in town to get speeders. My comment was simply an observation. You bet I have asked for more enforcement. I have also asked for one of their little trailers that record your speed and flash at a person who is going too fast. I was told no. I have asked for a "newer" patrol car that we can actually drive so we can move it around town, and never heard back from anyone. My problem is not with law enforcement, it's with the people who seem to have a complete disregard for the speed limit and can't be bothered to slow down for a mile or so. This forum is the only place I'm aware of to voice my concerns to people who travel here.
