South of Craig Morapos Creeek Wilderness area???

Does anyone ever ride this area (Morapos Creek, Wilson Mesa, Isles Mountain, Baldy, Sleepy Cat), locals or others? I've been hunting that area for 20+ years and think it's time I took a trip out that way for a snowmow ride! Would love to see it in the dead of winter! Even thought more than once about moving to the Craig area. That little town is booming compared to a few years back. I remember when the General Store was there and closed, Hardies pulled out of town, and it was looking gohstly! Now Murdocks opened a few years back and a super WalMart is up and running and the town is booming again! Wonder if anyone needs a good horseshoer out there????
If someone has been in that area in the past can you let me know if it's a popular area or what you think?.....I will monitor this post.....Thanks in advance......PM me if you wish about sledding or hunting that area! I know it well by mule!

LOL! The road in is the problem it dead ends up there with little to no turn around so you usually need a 2 place a sled deck to get turned around! There are alot of easier access points to that area so people don't go in that way! The easiest access is Yellow Jacket Pass alot of good riding up there you can ride over to Ripple Creek and Pagota Peak area! It is a huge area so just depends on snow pack which way we go!

Craig certainly isn't booming. That Wal-mart has been there for 5 years nearly, has pretty much shut K-Mart down. As far as I know, the only thing keeping that place alive are the three coal mines (Twenty Mile, the one in Craig and the one towards Meeker). Other than that, it's pretty dead. Even the oil and gas field business has slowed to a crawl, unless something has changed in the last few months. Most Craig residents work in Steamboat and that economy has been in the tank for going on three years.

Hmmm.....never thought of that! Not much for parking room by the last cattle guard either! Yellow Jacket is probly the wise choice to go and simply cut cross country from there! I know the trails are not groomed into Morapos so I would think it would keep the traffic down to none or very minimum.

I was comparing it to about 5-10 years ago, prior to oil and gas boosting the economy. I only see Craig during the elk hunting seasons. The amount of hunters in the area is definately down from what we see. No complaints in that area!
