soooo, where to jump at RE?

Abby is filming next wed at RE, and I'll be honest I don't know the place well enough to know where an ideal spot would be for her to play.

I know there are some step ups & easy doubles near dumont, and she could drop cornices at wall, but aside from that I've never found a place that would work well for her.

She'll hit drops up to about 50' or so, and tables around 60 or so, but she's not much for step ups or doubles that require a healthy first hit. Any ideas guys?

Gonna be up there this weekend btw, hope there's at least 6" of snow left by then!

There really isn't anything up there that you two are used to. Most of the decent "hits" are now hidden inside the skier boundary. Also, the lack of significant snow leaves most of the good downhill landings littered with huge boulders. Some of the larger drops up there have very little run-out and the landing would put you into trees.

Your best bet is to PM Duke1n. He is the biggest jumper up there and knows more spots than I do. Bushy prolly knows some spots also but snow coverage plays a HUGE part in formed cornices and landing zones. I see a few man-made kickers up there but most of those are in the Dumont Lake area also.

There are some places back by Buff but again, boulders not covered yet pose landing issues and I'd hate to see her get hurt.

Who is she filming for?

she drops 50' vertical faces? damn you go girl!

overlook on the opposite side of the highway from MC

some cool rocks to drop out by the powerlines I think that is Buff Pass

nothing over 30 ft vertical though.

the overlook MAY have just enough to hit the far left side, other than that you can still see rocks underneath it. I didnt hit it last week because of that. The bigger drop still has a drainage underneath it...there is no snow!!!

EDIT: That was two weekends ago and it hasnt snowed since!

I honestly wouldn't drop anything out there right now...thin thin thin.

Best bet would be to build a nice kicker on top of one of the hills and air it out.

Most of the drops don't get much wind to load the landing, which is good for avy's, but bad for depth. Maybe the wall, it blows in there pretty good. Spring Creek...

Could show you some very large drops back in area 54 (the horseshoe, Pat's bowl etc)the biggest RE has to offer but full of boulders now. PM me for directions, or I can run you up there if it works out. Not far from MC lot but kinda tricky to get into.

wow, that's not exactly what I was hoping to hear!!

I thought it was finally getting filled in up there.

Maybe we can build some booters sat & then they'll be ready for sunday, reform them when we leave & they'll hopefully be ready for wed.

btw, not a 50 foot face, but say a 30 foot drop & 20 foot past. She's kinda like me, I want a low first hit, then just keep taking it bigger. I think it's got something to do with tahoe, a chick movie. Not sure, she's setting it up.

I guess we'll take a look at wall too, she likes drops more than anything, so maybe we'll find a spot that works for her.

I wouldn't think the wall is even formed up yet. Especially with all of the traffic that ha been up there in the last few weeks.

It'll be even worse this weekend because the weather folks make it sound like a huge storm is there. If I were you two, I'd head South. Bigger stuff and they are going to get the brunt of the storm.

BCIL. Little Gravel and the north side of Porphyry Peak towards Blue Ridge trail at Bowen in Grand Lake.:mad: Beware of avy danger:mad:

Kaleb, I would hold off a week. Everything is rock hard, no soft landings. Knowing how the snowies were this weekend, I would even bet at the wall there isn't anything for a drop, that doesn't have rocks, or is too hard. I agree, either head south, or wait a week.

The suggestions for options aren't really doable.

Kristi (livetoride)& emilie moreshead (can't think of her name on here) are coming on wed, & the plan is to hit RE.

I'd be up for somewhere else, if I want to hit a cornice though we'll just go to the backyard, no way I'm hitting GL, just out of principle!!!

Anywhere else that would be central to Fort collins & Carbondale that would be more ideal right now? I don't want Kristi to have to drive more either.

You guys would probably be best served by going to Grand Mesa. I realize it's further for you, but it's close for Livetoride and she knows it really well I'd imagine. It's getting absolutely blasted right now and looks to get tons more. I can point you in the direction of more cornices/jumps than you can handle in a weekend. After this weekend I'll have a better idea on whether it's ready for that type of activity or not. Shoot me a PM on Monday.

I think you missed the "central to carbondale & fort collins" part!!

Problem is, the gal she's filming with is coming from fort & doesn't want to do a long drive.

Honestly at this point I'm pushing for Jones, at least there the high stuff is filled in. (what hasn't slid in the last two days that is!)

Caleb:

I agree with a Spring Creek run if you are looking for drops with a better run-out BUT...........timing (as far as weather) really sucks. Need snow badly. Don't ever need you or the girls gettin' hurt.......ya know?!?!

I know you'll be careful wherever you go..........have a great time and post up some pics if possible.

Q :D

You are kidding, right Bob?

Even HE knows he's full of poo on that one!!

he's just giving me crap!

Corp, Emilie said that anything further than RE was a no go.

Q, haven't spent much time at spring cr., you think it'd be doable right now?

Are there any climbs up there, Emilie wanted to climb too.

there's only one P in gapper lake bob!!!

There's no such thing as a bad cornice though!

I've actually had fun a G.L., I just couldn't stand the flatlanders flying by at top speed on the trail & the fact that you had to ride trail for 1/2 hr to get to the good stuff.
