Crap!
This is another way they are trying to go around our constitutional right to bear arms, (recently reaffirmed by the supreme court).
Call your senators and representatives, if Obama and the democrats are willing to try to do this right out of the gate, what are they going to go for next year?

First to bigjb - thank you for sharing this information - as a member of the taxpaying community, I appreciate receiving factual information I would not otherwise be aware of mosting because I am you know - working - contributing to the bailout
Second - under the section of my profile 'latest reputation received' was a red dot with the comment "never hear of it because its a lie, spread by paranoid racists" - I am well aware that this forum is about snowmobiling and not politics - but have the gonads to make a defamitory comment to me on the thread and not through the back door with a little red dot.
Third - its house bill 3359 and its real
2008 House Bill 3359 (Concerning pistol ammunition)

Introduced by Rep. Al O'Brien, (D-Mountlake Terrace) (D) on February 7, 2008, to require that all pistol ammunition be encoded that is manufactured, sold, or purchased in this State. This act would also require the Department of Licensing to create a database that would track pistol ammunition through a mandatory registration program for sellers of pistol ammunition. Provided in this act are definitions and penalties for non-compliance.
Referred to the House Judiciary Committee on February 7, 2008.

Very well written, but with flaws.

First of which, is that a criminal will actually go buy their ammunition at a local store. They won't. They will go out and smuggle it in from another state, make their own ammunition, or destroy the markings. They aren't going to obey the law, because they do not care about the laws.

Second, the idea is not to track a person involved with a murder, it is to provide a way to trace the evidence, and tie it to a suspect. This will result in the harrassment of the law abiding citizens. All it would take is for the criminal to pick up brass, make a projectile out of wood, and the person who purchased the ammo is now on the hook.

This leads to the reloaders. This would make reloading for your pistols illegal. This would affect the law abiding citizens of this state. Not to mention, all those who shoot competitive pistol matches.
Not only would it increase the cost of ammo for the public, but it would also do the same for the law enforcement community, who are currently limiting their ammo used for practice. (Personally, if I had a cop shooting in my area, I would want him to have as much trigger time as possible, so he can minimize the collateral damage caused from flying bullets)

Finally, it comes down to legislature that will do little or nothing but will feel good for the person who got it passed. The problem is the perpetrator of the crime, not the law abiding citizens. The law only effects law abiding citizens. Therefore, it is fundamentally flawed.

All of our politicians swore to uphold, preserve, and protect the constitution. We need to hold them to that oath. Don't quite know how to do that yet, I am sure someone could figure out how to do it.

Everyone is saying vote no... We don't get to vote on these issues, those idiots in Olympia do. What we need is a law that simply states, that any new laws or taxes need to come before the people of the state. This would include 'Fee's' because they would stop doing taxes, and everything would be a fee....

This would cost more to set up, and track, for how long? The records would need to be maintained for at least 50 years or more to be sure that the ammunition that was sold 50 years ago was used. What will that cost? Billions, in equipment, people, and reduced revenue to the state.

The Era of Obama will be a test of true Americans against a leader that will try to take away many of your rights. This is more than an issue on guns but personal liberties on all fronts.

Barack Obama direct quote:

It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or
religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant
sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their
frustrations.

Reps for ya 600ps ... good informative post. I too have waded through 2008 House Bill 3359 ... pathetic attempt at putting a stranglehold on law abiding citizens freedoms with a "technology fix" for gun crimes perpetrated by criminals. Same grabbers, different angle of attack ... same old liberal mindset that "they" need to protect us. It's great to know so many want to save us all from ourselves

Anyone tried to by 9mm ammo lately. It sure is much more difficult to find!!!!

I called, they had some on the shelf and in less than 5 minutes, some guy beat me to it by buying 12 boxes of 9mm and 12 boxes of .45

I'm totally against this but it is my understanding they they will be encoding the bullets with laser engraving, not the shell casings so we will still be able to reload ammo as long as we buy encoded bullets.

Am I wrong about this.

Either way I am against it!!!!!!!!!

The way i understood it reloading would not be allowed as you would not be able to purchase encoded bullets except in loaded form. so i guess it would be back to the basics of making your own, stock up on Lyman bullet molds.
I wonder how many actually think that this would work most of the self defense bullets fragment to the point they don't exit the target and all there doing is creating a market for illegal ammo. If they think it will be any different than picking up some illegal drugs there sadly mistaken :(

Here comes socialism... If he gets his way we all will be paying way more in taxes, supporting third world countries more and having dinner with muslims. And anybody who thinks that moderate Islam doesn't agree with the radicals better wake up, cause they will be approached by these radicals and given a choice. Join us or DIE!!!!!

Just one more comment and I'll drop it. If you go to www1.leg.wa.gov/legislature and go to the tab: 'find your district' it is very easy to find out who represents you and it gives a link to their e-mail. It takes only as much time as it takes to repond to a thread. The ammo bill is House Bill 3359 - just a quick note to your rep that you do not want to see this pass. One more minute and you can also write a blurp about senate bill 6900 - establishing engine displacement and emissions fees - that was dropped in 2008 but apparently is back. The bill would establish a higher license fee for a larger motor. Thats us with the pickups. I don't think they actually took into consideration the additional burden for the farmers, ranchers and self-employed that rely on such a vehicle. OK I'm done.
We can make a differnce - at least we can try.

It seems HB 3359 died on the House floor last year? Has anyone found that they are trying to rekindle it again in Washington? I can't find any info to confirm  It's almost certain that a similar Bill will try and surface again with the new left administration!

All of the 18 states had legislation introduced LAST year around Feb 2008. I have not heard one of them leaving committees or even getting a full floor vote. As well the legislation was only on HANDGUN ammo.

I agree, this registration is ridiculous and that we need to protect the Second Amendment as written: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I also believe in all the other Amendments too, which as a group, protect us individually from a rogue government. We already lost the 1st, 4th and 8th recently.

Besides it does seem pointless because even assault weapons against a black hawk helicopter with missiles ain't going to protect our butts when the government comes for us.

I was going to write something profound and political but instead I will leave you all with this; When they come to get my hand gun ammo they can have it. At 1680 feet per second, give or take.

No wait, I can help it.

I know the above sounds kinda redneck and all, but concider this. Our countries founding fathers would have saddled the horses and loaded muskets along time ago. Remember that a 3 cent stamp tax pushed them into fighting a war for this counties right to self govern agianst, at the time, the worlds most powerful military and they won. We are being taxed and regulated to near death and most every one goes home parks there a$$ in front of the television to catch another episode of American Idol. One day in the not so distant future we will wake up in very differnt country from the one we were raised in and learned about in school. And then it will be too late.

To the AZZHAT that gave me red rep, wrote this; "Washington State has always been left, nothing new about it." and then didn't have the nutz to sign it ... I was referring to the new left FEDERAL ADMINISTRATION you idiot! I have to date only had 1 signed red rep ... props to Hunter2008 for having a spine ... the rest of you back-shooting cowards can kiss my conservative AZZ!

The best and only way to fight this is to be immediate and upfront. Call your State and local senators and represenatives and let them know, NO!!!
Let them know that no matter wether they have a D or an R by their name, if they propose or vote for anything like this, your vote will immediately go to their replacement.

I have just never understood why liberals or anyone can be against guns. They are the best equalizer there is. Lady 110lbs. vs. 250lbs. intruder. Anyone who has ever shot anything learns immediately that it is alot harder to hit anything than they think; its not the movies and it takes practice to hit anything at any range smaller than the broad side of a barn. Tazer one shot, 38 pistol, you get 6 shots and it gets easier the closer they get to you.

Stay true, and luck to us all.

I have just never understood why liberals or anyone can be against guns. .

Not to sound trite....but you are kidding.......right?

Please email your representitives and tell them you will work to unseat anyone that supports this measure.

While your there....please mention bill 6900. At 400 dollars a pop just for the engine displacement fee it's going to cost me 1600 dollars just for the work trucks......that much more for the ranch rigs. Then I have my personal truck and the Wifes' Expo...all total $3600 a year in emissions fees. Like I'm not already supporting enough with the annual gas bill........

Come on folks it's time to get active here. Complaining is fine, but it's time to act !

A chemistry professor in a large college had some exchange
> students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the professor noticed one young man (exchange student) kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government. In the midst of

> 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punchline. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side. When they

Typical gun toting right wing nut job attitudes. Just because it might cause a little inconvenience or cost a little bit more for ammo, that means it's automatically a bad thing right? Oh boo hoo, it's going to cost a little more to go out and play with your deadly toys. If any of you would have a loved one of family member shot by some gun toting nut job, you might feel a little differently. But then again, probably not. Right wing nut jobs are so brain washed and have view points that are so myopic that you'd probably find some way to twist reality and blame democrats for it.

Self centered right wing nut jobs always find a way to blame the "liberal" democrats for anything that they don't like or don't agree with. They all seem to think that the world revolves around them, and they have no concern or consideration for the rest of the people that they have to share the planet with. Right wing nut jobs are nothing but spoiled brats who stomp their feet and hold their breath when something doesn't go their way.
