So, this is more of a ramble than anything else I guess. Three letters....TPS. Holy cow!! I spent an intense 4 hours last night trying to get a base line and then recalibrating the tps, and I thought I had it, but it runs like crap. I built the tps setting tool(that was the easy part), and was stoked to go home and tinker on it. At the end of my last ride, my sled started running like garbage. I thought I was running out of fuel, but was not. Loaded it up on the truck and got her home, and started to check things out. Reverse wasn't engaging, idled really low, to the point of shutting down. Weird, just out of the blue like that. It was an epic day with deep snow, and I ran her hard. She likes it that way. Is it possible that the tps got thrown out of adjustment?? What a pain in the *** this is. Gotta make sure you have a good 9volt batt, a good 5volt regulator, and a good meter, and lots of patience. A 10 min adjustment is only a dream, unless you don't count the time it takes to remove complete exhaust, slp intake, ypipe, and hood. My fingers are still aching. Also I found out that you can adjust the tps with only removing pipe. You can access the screws not too badly. But you have to take everything off and hold the throttle bodies in hand to get a base line setting. Which is a chore in itself. Yikes. So moral of the story, perhaps I have a fried tps sensor or a flat spot, I don't know. I"m going to take a 4 hour drive to the dealer on friday to get it plugged in for a diagnostic check. Never been to the dealer before. Time to get my cherry popped!!!, or my wallet emptied. Damn! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, a road trip is planned for this weekend. So a lot is on the line. I feel better I typed this.:beer;

joint the club, mine is running like crap too. going to be changing my tps, i checked it 4 times and it tests ok but it will hardly run now. it is only a year and a half old and has the new harness but i am having similar symptoms as you.

Snowmobiling.....Such a strange sport. It drains our wallets, stresses us out, puts us in many precarious situations, financially, and safety wise. But we love it soo much. It's a bit of a love hate thing.

AMEN BROTHER!!!

Good luck..hope it works out for you...like Bruce/DiamondDave said..a TPS can test good in every way, but in fact be bad..same goes for a stator!

i am going to replace my tps and stator to be safe then take it for a ride and see how it does. if all is good i will change it back to 975 and install my power commander 5 with autotune and see what else i can break

Mine is looking good sitting in the garage all nice and warm....

You guys are making nervous, not sure if I want to ride it or just keep it around to look at.

The first thing I see when I look at it though is a great big $ sign

I hear ya MacDawg! that baseline is a pain.
I just bought all the parts to make another tps setting rig, my last one went missing, and it's time to check it again, cuz I'm losing reverse sometimes. Not overly looking forward to it:rolleyes: Hopefully one of the 6 resistors I picked up will be in spec

If things worked the way they are supposed to, there would not be half the problems with these sleds, or any sled. I'm getting tired of seeing poor systems and engineering flaws. Gets frustrating.

Unfortunately we are surrounded by it. Whether it be sleds, cars, boats, even the large mining equipment I run... engineers need to get off the drugs, or do more, or something lol
At least most of us are mechanically savvy enough to work through alot of it, especially with each others help in places like this. Cheers:beer; and good luck.

Sounds like you may have broken the wires in the tps harness to me.

That sukker is fragile to say the least.

There is a repair harness that fixes JUST the TPS wires... I dont have the part number in front of me... but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Found it!!

yep, the tps harness wires are prone to breaking... Inside of the insulation

arghh!!

being too agressive with zip ties when securing these wires, or any wires in the polaris sleds for that mater can cause ill results.

There is a tps repair pigtail harness... Its made for the atv's but works well on the sleds.. The wire colors are differnt so you will have to pay attention to the position of the wire in the connector and make sure it goes the correct wire in the harness.

Polaris tps repair harness part # 2203165 about $35

So is it possible to just splice some new wires in the harness? Or do you have to trace the whole tps harness back to the ecu and replace it there? Looks like they are prone to breaking right at the sensor plug.

This is a little weird I just got back from a awesome ride. When I got back to the parking lot my 06 900 RMK was idling a little low with a surge ( approx. 200 RPM surge)
and would not go into reverse.
Is this similar to what you guy's are experiencing?

Sorry to hear about yer troubles, I've logged in about 800 miles so far this year problem free! (knock on wood)! I keep reading tho'! Good luck, let us know what you find! MH you say take the TB's right out or just pull back?

Very similiar Ice cap. Surging is a good way of explaining it. You look at your display and the idle is down about 200rpm and the lights will be flickering abit, because it's idling too low. I'm on the road, wrenching in parking lots, trying to figure it out. Ive gone to one dealer, he plugged it in said it was the tps, but I'm not convinced. Going to another dealer right now, to see what he says. I did order and pay for a new tps and wiring harness for the tps just incase. $250 bucks. Won't be here until next week. I wanna pull this thing through so we can continue our road trip!!

Well I decided to look into this myself and I took my multimeter and hooked it to the Light blue wire from the TPS and lo and behold the reading was 1.13 to 1.16 volts.

So I took off the pipe and loosened the two TPS screws (not too loose) and fired it back up and with a prybar started to twist the TPS sensor as close to .93 volts as i could and it ranges from .91 to .94 volts.
The voltage seems to never stabilize so that was as close as I could get.

Well it seem to do the trick engine now idle real good and it goes into reverse all the time...... so I am real happy that I don't have to take it to the dealer.

I have not taken it for a test ride, but I feel it will be good to go.
