somethings ratcheting

Went out riding this morning. 2 feet of fresh snow. Whenever I was on the throttle with my m1100 turbo it felt as if the track was ratcheting. Is this the chain case or is my track to lose? The track doesnt seem very lose which is why it seems as if it is in the chain case? Anyone know the fix or what the problem is?

Check your rear idler wheels. Depending on the year of the sled you could have the rubber idler wheels that delaminate. My sled had this issue. Cat has an updated part number for an all plastic wheel.

I was having this happen last year also. I was thinking/hoping an anti stab kit would help but haven't put one on yet. If you get one from what I understand you don't want to get the kit with 4 wheels but the one with two wheels. Didn't really explain why though.

Here is what I would do.........

Tighten the track so it is very tight and test if that changes anything. go down a trail at a constant speed, say 30 mph.

Track will not ratchet with no load, and a constant speed.

If the noise got worse, then it is probably idler wheels. If there was no change then it is probably your chain. Roll it on its side and pull the cover and inspect.

Make sure you loosen the track afterwards.

This sounds stupid, but could it be your snoflap getting caught up on the track?

Put a manual tensioner on the chain. The auto tensioner sounds good but they don't seem to work very well.

If its not the wheels delaminating your chain is about to blow up your case. Best to look at wheels first and then tear apart chaincase and inspect your chain. The stock chains on these are cheap Chinese crap, some are good but the majority aren't. You don't want to lose a case and then have to wait for the parts if you can put on a better chain and be done with it.

Don't wait to inspect chaincase. I blew my chaincase to bits after feeling vibration in my feet. I tightened my track right before that thinking It was ratcheting. 2 months down waiting for new halves. I have since went to c3 beltdrive and am really happy with it. 1 helicopter ride will pay for a large portion of a beltdrives cost. Plus you can change a belt on the hill. My chaincase grenaded so bad it took 3 hours in a shop to get the bottom gear unlocked and able to spin track so would have been a huge PIA to tow off mountain.

I think...

what happens is the track ratchets (you have to run the power claw guitar string tight, and it will still ratchet under load) then the auto tensioner loosens off, the chain doubles over and the gears eat the chain! The track sucks and so does the drive line!

Depending on where you live you can get the manual chain tensioner parts from white knuckle motorsports(Canada). If your going to open up the chaincase you may as well put the HD chain in also. You can also order them from evomotorsports directly. Either way you go you can't go wrong

I had a catastrophic failure on mine. Chaincase exploded into oil tank, and metal went through the engine, and my Evo turbo. Had to replace the engine with a brand new unit, as well as a brand new turbo, oil tank, and upgraded to the C3 syncrodrive.
Best not to wait as the other guys mentioned.

Don't need to over tighten it get a antistab kit because I bet you a hundred bucks if you look at your rail caps they might look a little funny! Both of my 1100's had the same vibration while underload plowing through the snow and holy **** the rail caps were trying to go through the windows! Even with the new rail caps

i have the manual tensioner i never used it and am getting a belt drive

i dont remember how much it was but its pretty cheap if i remember right

i will sell it to you for cheap
let me know...
