Some help needed, coming from sweden, planning a trip

Hi guys...

I really need some help, next week we are off to denver and kremmling for some riding with chris burandt. but only for 3 days :/

After that we were planning to rent snowmobiles for ourselves, up in grand lake. BUT, now they are not sure about the snow conditions.

Can anyone please help us, where to go, whitin a 5-8h drive from denver, where we could get the best snow, prefb. powder, if that´s even possible?

As little trail-riding as possible..
Any ideas where to sta, where to rent mountain-machines.

We would really appreciate any input!!

B.r Henrik, from sweden

A little FYI, he's not allowed to operate on RE anymore. I hope he told you that.

Fresh powder? It's been 40-60°f during the daytime for the last 2.5 weeks with zero snowfall. We need snow bad and all this stuff hitting the Northern part of the NW US is not dipping down to Colorado.

What do you mean that he´s not allowed to operate on RE?

For rentals, try EXTREME RENTALS 303-232-9342 www.ExtremeRentalsInc.com in Lakewood, Co They rent M8 Cats and include a trailer. You can also rent a 4 x 4 pick up truck to tow the rig.

Burand's operation has moved to Buena Vista, Co.

Sorry, can't comment on snow conditions in GL.

Here is a still image from a web cam on one of my cabins in Grand Lake (pointed at main st or the back of Spirit Lake Poo). The trail was open all the way into town last week, this week that is all part of the Colorado River....

your probably just mistaken on the location...he has moved his operation south of the ears near a town called Buena Vista this year.

Thanks, but can you give us a report on the trail conditions from "On the Trail" and Idle Glenn? We have a 3 day spring break trip planned March 25-27.

I'm gonna go with Crappy, Bob. GL didn't have much snow to begin with and with these ridiculous temps we're having it's going away FAST! And with a 20% chance of snow Sunday, it isn't looking like things will improve.

I have cabins there but I very rarely ride there... From years of experience, I could guess and probably be dead on, but you may want something more accurate so call the groomer @ 970 531 8872 and get his report...

I would recommend the grand mesa. It is about 5 hrs from Denver. I would stay at thunder mountain lodge. There is a rental company out of grand junction that has 12 pro 800 for rent. As others have said, temps have been really warm, so snow is really set up, but makes for a great base when we get the next dump.

Thanks, we spent 4 days on the Mesa last month-2 days of white out-great place. Our GL trip is with 3 grandkids on 2 up fan cooled rentals from EXTREME in Lakewood. I gona leave my sled home and ride the mud out of Idle Glenn--wouldn't be the first time on brown snow and the kids will still enjoy themselves.
(doubt if Grammy will :baby::baby::baby:)

I hope the guys from Sweden are squared away:face-icon-small-fro

Hi again, and thanks for your response!

So you think there will be snow at least?

Out of town--NO. We will be riding out of the Idle Glenn parking lot and hopefully find enough snow on the road to get some elevation. Go to www.snowmobilecolo.com Trails link Find GL in upper right hand corner of the map.

Sorry to trash your trip to GL, but best take quads up on the hill, NOT sleds. We rode from Idelglen on Sunday (3/11). In the morning the trail was thin ice that the scratchers had a hard time cutting into. Stopping along the side to kick snow into the tracks was basically useless as the snow is all dry sugar. Not too bad on top, couple of inches of hard crust with about 1-2 feet of sugar down to the bottom in the trees. By mid-day the hardpack stuff in the open turned to slush. Trail back to Idelglen in late afternoon was ice in the shade, slush down to mud in the sun. Trail into town is mostly dirt mixed with mud, slush, and rocks... so nothing to 'groom'....

Unless they get a good dumping of snow, GL is done with sleds for the season IMO...

Thanks--I just cancelled the 3 sled rentals @ $150/day plus gas and oil plus condo rental of $190/night at Soda Springs--too risky and I haven't received a stimulus check yet:face-icon-small-fro

BCBob; Your comment about using rental sleds to ride the mud in the Idelglen lot couldn't have been closer to the truth on the conditions. We were there from Sat to Wed and only rode Sunday due to the lack of snow. Spent most of that 'ride' pulling 2-up rentals out of the sugar in the trees.... not much else to do anyway....

The GL Groomers have done what they could and have a great positive attitude, but their site doesn't come close to telling how bad the conditions have become.
