Some DOA QD Belt Pics....

So as stated, 4 out of the 5 guys that I know that all got Pro RMK 155s, have lost QD belts. I am the only one thus far to keep mine...knock on wood.

Here are two seperate belts from two seperate sleds that blew in two different states out here...NH and ME.....

Both belts lost 15 teeth/cogs, and both belts started shaving them from left to right and then went right down to the outer belt with the teeth/cogs completely stripped until they stop on the 15th.....

Anyone know what that means....

Seams to my dealer buddy that it's the exact shape of the upper cog/gear and both had gone airborne and come down and hit the gas....

Both were over the 100 mile break in timeframe too...a mark I feel is completely made up IMHO...but I did it too...

I have one that has not failed and have done the uphill or downhill or flat full throttle landings many times.

IF I see the pictures right I see a big difference in my belt. My original wax coating is still completely intact at the bottoms of the belt teeth.
My sprockets have never touched the the belt there.

In my riding groups there are 8 new pro's with mileage between 250-900 and not one broken belt or drive shaft yet!!!Guess we are beating the odds!! I have not taken it easy either and I have watched the other guy's beat the crap out of there's too!!

I still believe in the belt drive system.

There are too many that are not having issues for that not to be true.

But.....BUT...

Some are having some serious problems.

To me... It is an issue of controlling mfg tollerances in sub assemblies in regards to shaft and/or sprocket runout... belt tolarance... as well as water/ice on the sprockets.

It has to do with runout/alignment on some machines like MH has suggested. I was going through drive belts like crazy on my 08 xp and it was all due to alignment. This has probably been beat to death but has anyone checked the runout?

I dont know if I buy that. Mine has a very visible wobble with the 12 shaft in it and I have 300 miles at 10-12 pounds of boost. The guys with the stock shaft with clamp have broken belts at the same boost range. We have 2 with the 12 shafts and both are still trucking along.

They were not broken in and both went through a shaft failure and we reused the same belt and kept the new ones as spares. In fact I sucked a rock through my tunnel at full boost in a meadow and it locked up the track and threw me over the bars but the belt held up. I cant imagine a situation tougher than that.

Maybe the aluminum shaft flexes. Maybe the stock can gets the belt hot. My turbo downpipe gives it more room than stock. I am thinking the problem is in the 13 shaft.

Real curious to see what happens/changes for 2014...keep the replies coming guys...like to read and learn, thanks.:face-icon-small-win

Plugging the drain hole in the bottom will help with the snow/ice buildup problem. I put an aftermarket plate over mine to plug the hole and offer additional protection to the lower sprocket/belt area. It was easy to install. I drilled a couple of rivets out, drilled a couple of new holes in the plastic bellypan and put in four rivets. A 20 minute job at most. I hope that it helps with the potential problem. We will see as the season goes on.

Yep, I have that too...about $65 I believe...That, the $170 Dual Clamp Kit, $50+/- QD Tools, and $200 QD Belt...Almost $500 of spit and bailing wire to hopefully keep this thing together...Feel like I'm riding one of my old Arctic Cats lol.

that is very sad when you think about it, what we have to spend on top of the price of a new sled to try and make even a little reliable. I never thought too much about some of the smaller things like the QD belt tools.... They give you a tool to change your clutch belt, why not the other one?!?! and it's almost impossible to get a dealer to "throw in" an extra belt anymore!!! (clutch or QD). It's kinda like buying a new pickup and not getting a spare tire or a lug wrench. It's actually worse. Because when you blow a tire, you typically don't need to heli your truck back out of the boonies! I'm just rambling..... :focus:
