Interesting podcast from NPR's planet money podcast...

3 main solutions / issues to fix
1) Send all kids to preschool. There is a lot of evidence that states/shows that kids that go to preschool (especially those from poor neighborhoods) are much much better off in life then those that didn't go to preschool. Lots of evidence shows that the lessons learned in preschool, if missed, are very difficult and expensive to teach later on in life. I wouldn't have believed it / know it, but that is what a lot of evidence / studies show.
2) cut lots of govt spending / increase taxes to get debt to gdp levels back to where they should be (sound familiar winter brew? lol)
3) fix the health care system - the main thing is to remove the tax incentives for employer based health care. It screws up the system, removing the cost signals from the people using the health care, and creates a half free market / half socialized care system. Not to mention that the only reason we have employer paid care is due to govt regulations in WWII limiting increases in wages. Either going all socialized or all free market would be much more efficient then the mess we have now.
It is about 45 minutes long, but it is a pretty good listen.
