Where do I find a place that sells the air hammer attachment/bit for compressing the round head solid rivets onto tunnels. Not sure of what there called. Thanks

The bit is called a Rivet Snap...for installing aircraft type solid rivets.....You use the snap in a Rivet gun and a bucking bar on the back side, this is where the compression takes place...Try tracking down US Tool's, or another Aircraft tool/supply dealer.Various sizes avaible to fit the sizes of rivets you need to use.

BC.

Make sure you find the rivet you want first then the bit. The bits don't fit other rivets.

I just started looking for them through a search and I found about 10,000 options. what's the standard size for snowmobile tunnels? I have the solid round head rivets that fabcraft gave me a couple of years ago which I think are 3/16. but can't find the rivet snap for it. I used it in my air hammer and I beleive it was a 401 shank.

Rivet

The air hammer bit is also avaialbe in both a 3/4 and 1 inch cup so make sure you get the one for the head of your rivet. I have bought the tool from a local tool supply and used it with a Harbor Freight air hammer. A big sledge hammer works for a bucking bar. Rivets are also available in aluminum and alloy. I use the soft aluminum ones for just filling unused holes and the alloy for areas where strength is needed.

For protruding head rivets (button head) use an MS20470AD6-X, this is a structural aluminum alloy rivet. The AD is the alloy of the rivet (2117-T4). The 6 is the diameter (3/16), the -X is for whatever length you need, example would be a -4 is 4/16 in length. The length is measured in 1/16th increments and the diameter is 1/32nd increments. As for just filling holes, use the MS20470A rivet. The "A" material is soft aluminum, not structural.

Bought rivets from Fabcraft to, but I just bought it all there so it would be right.
Rivets, rivet snap (long and short) and air-hammer. Why not just buy it from him?

got all the hammer rivet stuff i needed from VE

they sell the tool and 1/4", 1/2", and 5/8"

I called fabcraft up and they are sending one out asap. Thanks for the information guys!! Later

Pretty sure aircraft spruce is the cheapest place around..
12-01207 RIVET SET STRAIGHT 3/16X 3-1/2 $8.95

with most bucking bars between 10 and 20 bux

Any estimate on the price difference between ordering from VA or say Harbor Freight?

VA wants $40 for the tool. I just ordered the tool and a quarter pound of rivets for less than $12 from Aircraft Spruce. Should be able to pick up a air hammer from Harbor Freight for less than $20. It's not professional mechanic stuff but it'll get me by for the 20 rivets I do every 5 years.
