Replacing drive shaft bearing. Diagram doesn't quite show if these (solder rings) are between the bearing flange & tunnel or the Speedo gear flange & tunnel...anyone now? I'll have another beer while waiting for an answer.
Thanks,
Dobbs
If I read the parts diagram right and if these rings are what I think they are I would put them on the carriage bolt as they go in the bearing flange from inside the tunnel. I think the purpose is to hold the bolts in place while installing the shaft and getting the nuts put on them. You might even want to try just putting them on the bolts and put the bolts in the flanges and tightening them down once before putting the bearing and the flanges on the shaft. That will cinch the bolts and the rings into the inside flange and they should stay there for the rest of the process. I have never bothered replacing them I just fight with installing the bolts after getting the shaft in place.
