Soft comound peak 2.5 vs challenger extreme

looking to change out 5.1 on a pro for a new track . Which is better for bottomless powder and climbing? Trying to keep flotation but increase performance.

Almost went with the CE myself, but opted to wait, they don't even hardly have the new peak in enough numbers to sale yet. It is softer than the CE, but there are also 2 CE's now, and new lighter one isn't proven yet either. I'm gonna wait and see how the ride results come in and decide in January, The 5.1 is gonna be better for bottomless POW and the CE better for climbing, as far as an all around best pick between the two I'd have to say the CE, but lots of work and expense for not all that much gained in my opinion, if your changing your skid you might as well while your in there, if your not chaning skid then probably not worth the hassle, just my thoughts, to each their own, let er rip!!

Just an FYI, the Peak track will take longer to break-in than the CE. Lots of guys last season used the Peak a few rides, started complaining about and replaced it. So if you start searching on here about the Peak, keep this in mind. I've heard the Peak starts getting better at 500 miles unless you are one of the few that don't have ride trails to get to the powder, then it'll take a little longer.

Rich,

For the 2012/2013 season the Peak track will come in 2 different durometers.

A soft compound which is new for this season and the original compound which was available last season, and again this season.

I spent a few days with the Camoplast factory person in charge of aftermarket tracks.. and went through all the options for this year.

The "Soft" peaks tracks have been released in a 154/155 and 163" 2.86" pitch.... 15" AND 16" wide.

They are significantly softer than the the other offering.

The 9230 (15 x 154), 9231 (15 x 163) ,9232 (16 x 154) are the softer tracks... 9177, 9178, 9179, 9180, 9181, 9182 are the firmer tracks

BOTH tracks, firm and soft compounds, are offered this year.

The softer compound is a mixed durometer that I believe will be just the ticket for those in dry powder.

The new track will not require the kind of break-in referenced above.

MH, those are the same part numbers from last year. I ordered a 9181 last year as I needed the 15"x154"x2.86" track. I still have the specifications pic you posted from last year and it shows the same info as you just posted today unless I missed something.

For bottomless fluff I doubt you'd see much improvement with either of those over the 5.1

They are both stiffer than the 5.1.....and you don't want stiffer for bottomless fluff.

MH, what is your opinion. Would the stiffer Peak be better for boosted applications and the softer be better for stock HP? Did camoplast represent to you they will continue to manufacture both versions?

Sorry about that.... I posted the wrong photo and numbers.

I've fixed the info.

Camoplast did say that both PEAK track compounds will be made.

Softer will be better for dry pow and the stiffer for higher moisture content/spring snow.

I rode last years peak and liked it in sierra snow (high moisture)
