SoCal riding?

Greetings all!
Just curious about riding areas in SoCal. Have lived in Seattle for a few years and have had a blast riding mountain sleds in the cascades. However, work has moved my wife an I away from the mountains and now living on the sunny beaches of eastern Australia.

Eventually we will be moving back stateside in a few years and one of the possibilities will likely be near Edwards AFB. Looking on the map I see ski resorts in San Bernadino National Forest, is there any riding in that area? The other possibility I see is Mammoth Mountain but that is a good 4-5 hour drive.

Appreciate any help!

We have a couple spots to ride on the San Bernardino NF that our club has adopted. Nothing too exciting, but a fun spot to take the family/kids for a day ride.
Most of our riding is in the Sierras. The closest is the Sherman area, north of Kernville/Lake Isabella in the Sequoia NF. Groomed trails, lots of off-trail, warming huts, etc.... Bakersfield club website has good info: www.sugarloafers.com
Mammoth is another hot spot, yes it's 5 hours away, but pretty much have to drive to get to the good snow if living in So cal.
Check out our club site, and let us know if you end up out here. www.southlandsnoriders.webs.com

Yes you can ride

I am stationed at Edwards and ride but it is a drive about 90 min. But when I was in Alaska we would drive that far or father to ride good powder
I live in California City and have one other guy that rides with me
Mammonth is a long drive hope to get there early in the season this year
So come on up to Edwards and we will hit up Kennedy meadow
Riding start above 6000ft so be ready for some high altuide riding

Sounds like some decent riding. It was usually hit or miss in Seattle, last year all the snow melted in January then was pretty good in the spring after we got some big dumps. If you were willing to drive to Revelstoke, BC or places like that you could chase the snow any time of the year but the 8 hour drive was discouraging.

Where in Alaska were you stationed? Did you like it? How was cost of living? I'm not in the military but do work at military bases a lot and Alaska may be another choice.

Elmendorf

I liked it there the Cost of living is hi and getting stuff shipped there is hi
but the Cost of living not much higher than CA and the veiw much better in AK than it is in the Mojave des.
