Soapstone Snowcheck Ride - 10/06

Damn Economy

I need a hair dryer if we're placing bets.:face-icon-small-hap

Does Shane have a 5 yr. plan? LMAO

so the game plan is.

We all meet and gather on the ridge. Bets are placed on who makes it out. Those who want to drop in while everyone else watches from the top with cold beers in hand, judging points on style, wrecks, broken parts, and number of stucks.

Last guy out uses his winnings to buy dinner for everyone... :D

Its kind of like survivor...

If I drank, I would drink to that.:beer;

I'm game; count me in.

Know that springs on the mountian side do two things: eat away at the base layer of snow so it will collapse under you.. even in January.. and those springs feed the creek so it says very soft in the narrowest part of the gorge.

Other then that the snow blows in there very deep and very soft... you can get down the creek from the divide between Soapstone Creek and Iron Mine Creek but when the gorge gets step and narrow you have thick trees on the south side and a steep soft slope on the north side..

In March I have seen tracks straight up and down the slope from Iron Mine Lake into the bottom of the creek... but never in January..

Might actually be the smartest place to be. That way there is someone who can go get help!
Been there.. done that... I was the one that stayed on top and went for help.

I'll take the pictures and keep score... anybody got a snowcat with a winch? That could be the back up plan to drag the broken sleds out...

Whoever shows up with a Skandic will be packing out the most cash.
$$$$Towing Fee's $$$$

I've actually been thinking of building a deep track Skandic, two speed, with a towed sled with a winch... Winch the broken sled up the worst hills and drag it back on top the sled. There is a guy on Doo Talk who cut up two 174 x 2.5 tracks to make a deep track Tundra...

Chief's sled recovery service. More expensive then dragging it out yourself, cheaper then a chopper...

Will trade a good running '96 XLT 600 RMK for a working Skandic..

HP/trackspeed is key when climbing, and Skandic's just dont have it!! My dad's friend bought an Indy Widetrack years ago and found out that just because it had a big track, it just didn't cut it. It was, however, great for the flats!! But you could probably use that for the rental guys stuck right off the trail. :)

Agree, Not a hill climber. Timberlakes used to pull a snow grader with a Scandic before they bought a small Snow Cat. I was very impressed with the torque that thing had. They groomed the trail that went through the Church Property.
