So, if Yellowstone erupts ...

Yep, that map is just the rock bed laid down by the last eruptions. Wind has everything to do with where it lands. Basically, if your 200 miles, or 600 miles down wind of it, when it blows. (that's winds at all elevations up to 10 miles) Your going to be just like the residents of Pompeii. Even New York should expect 3 foot of ash, as well as Portland and California. People real close, could be looking at 600 feet of ash and boulders the size of your house. Heck I remember getting ash on my car in Indiana, when St Helens blew. If I'm in the area, I'm going down to the park with sldgy, and a lawn chair, pass the bong man.

I've been doing some looking, and large earthquakes, and lava flows are the norm in that area. The swarms means lava is on the move, in a normal volcano. But, it could also be steam or gas. Basically, they have no freaking clue what's going to happen. They think the big eruptions are preceded by huge lava flows, so there will probably be some warning. If the big one hits, your looking at 1 to 10 summers, without snow. No crops.

I wonder if they have a environmental impact study. The eruption wouldn't want to be sued by the greenies. Kinda puts the whole snowmobiling on public lands thing into some prospective. Nothing we do, will make any difference, long term.

Living in the Burg or Idaho Falls looks like we would be screwed, shouldnt be a suprise though this area is full of big lava flows.

what is interesting, is all the past super eruptions happend approx 26k years apart. In 2012 we will be entering into the end of this cycle. The sun will enter the equater of the milky way and start a whole new solar cycle..it will flip its poles.

coincidence?

2012 is also when the mayan calendar ends. They believed thats when this world will end.

For all the global warming tards out there, I always tell them we as a human race will not extinct ourselves, this planet will do it for us. I'm putting my money on Yellowstone sealing the deal.

Scientists have revealed that Yellowstone Park has been on a regular eruption cycle of 600,000 years. The last eruption was 640,000 years ago…so the next is overdue. The next eruption could be 2,500 times the size of the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption. Volcanologists have been tracking the movement of magma under the park and have calculated that in parts of Yellowstone the ground has risen over seventy centimeters this century.

Following the eruption, the cloud would envelope the world. dropping temps world wide.
So the important question is.......................

Can you sled on ash??

You could have went up to St Helens, and tried it out. I'm sure the park service wouldn't mind.

Winter all year long, for years.

Now if we could just deal with the little problem of the food supply, we would have it made.

how about that one in russia thats about to pop her top been watchin that one too

Russian volcano erupts
(01:28) Report
Dec 30 - The Koryakski volcano to the far east of Russia has started to erupt emitting ash which could threaten local populations.

The Kamchatka Koryakski volcano's last major eruption occurred 3,5 thousand years ago. Scientists now predict an even more damaging and far-reaching eruption.

probably won't catch me out sledding around in a multi-year winter...not until the temps get back up to at least -20, and the winds arn't blowing 100mph across the barren landscape.

I'm gonna stay warm and fuzzy in my cave down below

Big power plants, and grow lights. We could feed a lot of people. But, getting Premium Gas may be a problem. Oh well, I'm sure Obama will stop the volcano with his super powers.

Hey sldgy, what part of the body do you like? Buy the way, those are dead skinny people, by that point. They won't have much meat on them. Better stock up early, and build a big freezer.

I wonder what the cancellation policy will be in West Yellowstone. Maybe I should PM goldenwest.

sldgy- Stay away from the brown acid. I think that the colors will appear without the haze. :D

Send the god hates fags group to yellowstone to protest.

Have a cold beer handy at all times just in case it does happen. :beer;

Just In:

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a notable swarm of earthquakes has been underway since December 26 beneath Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park, three to six miles south-southeast of Fishing Bridge, Wyoming. This energetic sequence of events was most intense on December 27, when the largest number of events of magnitude 3 and larger occurred. The largest of the earthquakes was a magnitude 3.9 (revised from magnitude 3.8) at 10:15 pm MST on Dec. 27. The sequence has included nine events of magnitude 3 to 3.9 and approximately 24 of magnitude 2 to 3 at the time of this release.

I'm surprised the article doesn't mention the huge dome that has been building in Yellowstone lake for years, last I heard it was several hundred feet tall and growing fast. tick....tick....tick......
