So I have to get in shape says my doc...what works?

I started the PACE program a couple of months ago and it is great, you don't need to join a gym, you can use any excersise equipment and it only takes about 20 minutes a day for 5 days a week. It is anorobic in that you excersie hard when in work mode. I do 5 to 7 sets at each session, I use jumping jacks, squats, stair climber, Cardio machine, air walker and stationary bike, treadmil will also work or you can run. The trick is to do 2 minute workouts on each set followed by 2 minute rest 4 t0 7 sets. Change up weekly maybe 1 minute hard workout followed by 2 minute rest or maybe 3 minute workout with lesser intense activity and only 5 sets. You can also run hard for 100 yards and rest walking 50 yards. The trick is to push the body followed by the rest period and to change the sets continually to not allow the body to get into a rut. It is the fight or flight concept and will cause the body to burn fat even while you are sleeping. You may not lose weight but you will gain muscle and stamina and lose the spare tire. Swampy:D:D:beer;

have you tried. Not eating as much or doing that Pay for the meals and they ship them to you. I weighed 230 and lost 55 pounds doing that program a few years ago. What ever you do. keep to your goal. Something i did was take a picture of me when i was fat and post it on the inside of the fridge. it stoped everytime i was just gona go eat because i felt like i needed 2.

1. Run-start slow run a block walk a block for a couple of miles and build up slowly. Get good shoes from a knowledgable shoe store. Your joints will thank you for it. Buy a heartrate monitor. Set goals 1 mile, 5k, 10k, marathon, whatever keeps you motivated.

2.Pump the iron. Learn how- get a trainer or knowledgable friend to teach you.

3.Learn to eat well. Tons of info out there-stay away from fad diets. Eat several small meals a day. Keeps the metablilism going. One meal a day tends to put the body in starvation mode, slows things down to save itself. Burn more then you take in.

These are the things that have worked for me, you will have to find out what works for you.

if you don't do 90x which I hear is great and want to hit a gym, send me a PM. I have tons of great workouts....used to be a huge gym rat and several trainers became good buds and hooked me up with some good stuff.

As I said, check out Body for Life and the book Eating for life. The body for life program includes exercise AND meal recipes/suggestions. The guy that came up with the program also started the supplement company EAS, which he will suggest their supplements if you don't have time for the small meals. The exercise program is a short (only about 20 - 30 minutes a day) powerful workout. My brother in law did this and it worked well for him.

Depending on your shape start with walking and work up to running, and spend money on shoes otherwise you will hate every minute of a run.

If your wanting to do this from home I would sugest some resistance training as well as push-ups, sit-ups or crunches, and pull-ups. Increasing your core-body strenght is huge.

Also get a heavy bag and do some boxing work outs. That is great cardio and great stress relief. It will get your heart rate up there and it is fun doing it.

My wife lost 40 pounds after our son was born (not including baby wieght) and she was able to do it by portion control.

Good luck

I have lost a total of 30 lbs in the last year, by still eating what I want, but cut it in 1/2, for me which is now what they suggest you eat anyways. This also keeps me from craving and then breaking the diet. Get smaller plates this gives you smaller portions. If we go out, I eat 1/2 my meal and bring the rest home or whatever. I eat a hamb patty no bun, or 1/2 the bun, whole wheat if avail. Watch the salad dressings, I like dorothy lynch, seems to have less calories yet tons of flavor. I exercise daily, run 3 miles a day, plus park at the end of the parking lot, use the stairs rather than the elevator, eat fruits and vegis, I quit beer, maybe 1 x a week go to a light, no soda, drink tons of water!!! The first few weeks is tough your stomach is not the size it should be, and will eventually shrink. I started running and working out, it took a while to start the lbs coming off, but inches were coming off, I was gaining muscle. Finally about 3 months or so, the lbs started dropping. Good luck, it is a long tough road!!!

My wife started the P90X program after me telling her for so long how important it is to add weights to your workout program the older you get.
Get ripped in 90 days. NO SHI!.
She started showing results so fast I got intrested. She looks & feels awesome ! He confidance rocks ! I have worked out my whole life mostly cycling and running. In the fall I start lifting quite a bit to add strength for sled season. I never lift much in the summer because I THOUGHT the muscle mass would weigh me down on the bike.
I have been doing it all wrong for a long time.
Since I have switched to a Coors light diet and started P90X and my
"BIG DADDY X" program ( my own extra lifting program ) haha, and running HILL PROGRAMS at the gym and on trails , I have lost 6 lbs ( didn't really need to lose weight) 180 to 174 lbs. I am SO MUCH STRONGER ON THE BIKE ! especially climbing. My overall core strength has improved everything immensely ! Im stronger running, climbing, cycling, and in the sack !
P90X also has a new "10 minute workout" now. I think its about 12 dvd's of ten minute workouts that " do it all" in 10 min a day !
Set goals and try hard.
I am doing my 3rd 1/2 marathon this year Nov.1st and I am going to try and beat my wife just ONE time this year !:D

This might sound crazy but I have heard alot of good things about the fitness things you can buy for nintendo wii. I dont know if you have ever played one but I have done the boxing game and it killed me. That was just boxing my sister not even the workout mode. Worth looking into then its fun too!!

I pump iron 5-6 days a week 1.5 to two hours per workout . No cardio at all (except for snowmaching I get plenty of cardio in the winter with that )

(heavy metal in your ears and in your hands at the same time is a great stress relief !)

Get out from behind your desk and do something physical private fatbody!

lol I'm not fat

just once I hit over 200 started getting hypertension and sleep apnea, if I got ripped lean and stayed lean I could stop my prescriptions. My body hoards sodium...

I just don't sweat as much as most dudes when I work out. Guys will look like they got out the shower and I'll have a couple beads of sweat on my forehead is all. Thinking of hitting up a sauna to see if that'll get me sweating (removing excess salt)

I hate taking pills

I agree with what Kristy says....too many people eat more than they need to...it gets better if you watch your portions.

You could do what I doo....I've rigged my elliptical machine so my laptop sits on the front of it! Every time I wanna surf I am on my machine! :D I'm finding that I WANT to exercise and 30 minutes a night is just not enough these days!

i started to get high blood pressure and sleep apneia. lost 30 lbs and its all gone now.
