So I guess the Rabbit Ears parking lot proposal is approved?

Are you saying that CO residents get better pricing on the Epic Local Pass?

Or that only locals can buy it? Because they'll sell that pass to anybody.

Your posted pic is a black X, if that explained something?

I used the wrong tags... it's a link now.

LOCAL in the local pass, means CO, so no... they don't sell the local pass to anybody. Pricing for CO residents is lower, and it's technically a different pass (that makes the citiots feel speshul).

Simple thing to look up before debating.

Heck with all that Bud money Colorado is now collecting Colorado residence should be receiving refunds on everything for years of over paying.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Based on the federal taxes we pay already they should have expanded the parking, kept it plowed, and left us alone with it a long time ago.

The only similarity I can draw on this is to the parking lot in Albany WY.

A couple of years ago they made it into a "day use" area. They put up the pay station and are charging $5 a day. They sell annual passes for $25. No discounts for residents vs. non-residents. During the summer we can use the same passes on any Med. Bow or Routt National Forest area (we use it when we launch the boat and fish Rob Roy in the summer - I am sure there are a bunch of other areas that we can use the pass for).

I am very much against this type of set up based on what I have seen up in WY - the Albany lot is plowed marginally better, but there have been no other improvements since we started paying (no trash service etc.). It is basically the same Parking lot and set up - but everyone pays $5 per day now.

The Rob Roy boat launch area where I can also use the same annual pass has actually gotten worse. They took the dock off of the boat ramp two summers ago and have not put it back. They claim lack of funding which is total BS. They are pulling more money in now from charging snowmobilers in the winter 7 miles down the mountain in Albany..... Yet the FS seem to have lots of money to close down ATV trails all summer long and cut down beetle killed trees along FS roads to "protect us"....

It will be interesting to see how/if the money collected for parking at RE is used. My guess is that it will go into a slush fund for pet projects that the FS office can't get funded from congress.

It's not going to be as bad as you think. They won't close lots till one is enlarged. Also, I really think the same amount of people will ride there but they won't be clogging the lots like in the past.

And IMO if people had parked cordially and responsibly in the past, they wouldn't be treating us sledders as a bunch of immature, self centered clowns but you have sledders acting like that in the current parking lots, then by all means, treat them like it.

I have tons of photos from every single lot up there with people parking like jacka$$es. So yeah, I'm a little happy that they are going to regulate it more. And I'll be happy to pay a fee to park.

Parking up there has gotten worse each year. Last year was just insane.

You have huge 30+ foot RV's with 6 place trailers parking long ways in the center of the MC Lot, taking up at least 8 normal spots for the diagonal parking. They need to park on the outer edge. You have people SAVING spots for their latecomer pals with traffic cones, which is actually illegal according to the USFS. You have people showing up at noon and can't find a spot so they just park in front of people or in the actual traffic circle. YOu have people parking in every direction you can imagine. One would think that a bunch of sledders that have professional jobs as contractors, engineers, architects, etc could figure out how to park like a normal person, but I guess if there aren't any barriers or painted lines they can't figure it out.

If I see cones I'm driving right over them. That is total bullsh*t.

I pretty well agree with PJ Hunter.
I've been riding RE for the past 16 years and have seen the parking situation / ignorance get progressively worse each year.
Like most anything in this world if people can't or are unable to regulate themselves then someone else will regulate for them.
I rarely ride RE at a weekend but even during the week the muddy creek lot can have a large portion of the parking hogged up by only a handful of folks with huge rigs. I'm ok with paying a small fee to park. If they are going to expand parking then I think that there should be a separate area for the folks that need more space and obviously they can pay more for a
Bigger parking space.

So I read, "day use" and "gates" several times. I'm ignorant to the proposal details. Did RE just become no over night parking and does gate me an actual draw bar limiting access unless open?
