So..... I bought my first Cat

switching to cat

I too am leaving Yamaha. I currently have a 03' RX1 with some modes and less seventy pounds. I will keep it for a back up sled. Wouldn't get much for it anyway. I will be picking up my 2010 HCR next week. I can't wait to rip it up on my new HCR. It will feel like riding Twiggy I'm sure.:D:D:D:D

i would go with the speedwerxs single pipe, y-pipe, boondocker box, and bdx air intake, thats what i run on my 08 m1000 and it runs like a top

Welcome I've rode Cats my whole life [Besides a Sno-Bunny and a Skiwiz in the early 70's] and they have been good to me. I think you'll like them!

You will absolutely love your new sled. I too recommend the full slp pipe set up. Runs great on my 07. As far as the seat I would go with the boss also. Has a better feel to it and I dont quite know if im sold on the stubby seat for 2010 might be just fine though:D Enjoy the new cat!

I did the same thing! After riding a few Polaris and having them fall apart I switched to Cat a few years back and have had no regrets. I know own 6 of them! You will LOVE the 09 M8!!! I had Powder Pros on my Mountain Cat 800 so I put them on my M8 and really like them on this sled also. I don't think you can go wrong with them. The stock skis absolutely suck! Have fun with your new sled. :beer;:beer;

Hey thanks guys for all the great responses I did get a 09 and it ended up that I am picking up a hold over from a different dealer now too ..... LOONNGGG story but I will give you guys the basic jest... showed up and it was a 08 for 7500 so I did a frantic search of minnesota and found a 09 for 7800 8 miles from my house full warranty still in the crate too.... YES!!!! I got lucky

Anyway thanks for the info on the skis I was going between the hcr and powder pro's I want the powder pro's now I think. I will see what kind coin i can save before dec.

The seat is going to be the 10 I dont really care much for the size of the boss (length) and price is a issue. I had a Prox seat on my old mod sled and love the short style Im 6'3 so i want a taller seat as well

Hopefully I can get a full pipe/clutching for next year Im just doing basic mods for this season

the SW pipe works really well on the m1000's but the slp works better on the M8's. Im with you on the new boss seat, to long and looks goofy. Im trying to find the older model seat right now in good shape. As for the clutching I would at least add a shift assist and a different spring to your sled now (not even $40). That will make a whole lot of difference. Then down the road as the coin becomes available you can switch to a full clutch conversion like the cutlers, or the rkt.

Your looking for a older stock m seat ??? If so I will have a brand new one for sale soon :D

do you have a link for the shift assist and what spring do you recommend for basically stock sled???

ah I see I got confused Makes sense now !!!!

Thanks for the links I am bookmarking them and will probably be getting them soon

Congrats!

Welcome to "CAT CONTRY" and I'm sure you'll spend more time ridin a Cat than you did at the polaribus parts counter. One thing I don't quite understand is that I see you are in the Minnesota area and am curious as to why someone would want an "M" in flat country? I have a M1k and they are great in the deep and steep but is not worth a crap on the trails or hard pack. The few times that I did get a chance to ride in that part of Minn I saw nothing that would challenge or justify having a long track of 153 or 162 with 2.25 lugs. I know that almost all the sledds back there use studs and can't see an long track M with studs let alone wizzin across a frozen lake on a moutain sled. After I saw this post, I got on craigslist for Minn and saw No Mt sleds for sale in that area. Am I missing something here?

order a few extra windshield darts and keep them in your bag, when you flip it over and the windshield pops off and it does easy you will not have to spend all day looking for the darts!
O and welcome to the best team out.....

Or better yet, ditch the windshield in the mountains. It throws powder in your face anyway!

Rox Riser?

Congrats on coming to the "right team!" I think I am going to switch from my Rox riser to an Ole's, sure looks nice. I am not a fan of the super skinny HCR skis, I like the powder pros or C&A Pro XT's. The new seats look like a cheap alternative to a Boss, a can is a good idea, but be careful about adding intake mods without a fuel controller, get some good advice on that first... The only thing I would add is a two wheel kit if it is an 08, if its an 09 you don't have to worry about it. Once again, congrats!

Why are you going to switch from the Rox adjustable riser to an Ole's fixed? Since my sno pro adjustable steering post is bent and all loose, I thought the Rox system might be a good one. Especially since you use it with a pivot riser setup. What don't you like about the Rox?

Another thing to think about doing is a complete shock revalve. Best money I have ever spent on my wifes 08 M-8 and my 09 M-1000;)
Cost about $130 for all four and its worth every penny...

I would agree on a revalve being one of the best mods but I am curious who is doing good shock revalves for under $35.00 per shock?

Oh yes I bought a Cat too after being a diehard yammi guy... but this is my second cat I have owned my first one in 84 was a 1975 El Tigre...
