So how is YOUR business in this economy?

I'm based pretty heavily on the recreation end of things in my business and it is pretty slow right now. I'm just curious which other industries are getting hit hard and which ones are not being effected quite as much.

GMC, PONTIAC, BUICK dealership here. GM has instructed us to project 18% lower sales next year. Kinda a funny deal, GM wants us in a program that costs the dealership 20k to be part of (SFE) and two of the MAIN criteria is to surpass your sales # for previous year and training levels. If you do they reward you with a large settlement check at end of year. If you fall short in ANY category you forfeiet the 20k.....How many dealers are on board with this you think???? And GM is all pizzed that nobody is signing up this year.

General contractor, we're still going strong. We have enough work to get our crews through winter. Hoping spring will be business as usual, guess time will tell.:face-icon-small-win

Used powersports sales, and repair.....

SWAMPED !! Can't keep up (knock on wood !)

Retail Lumberyard. Our sales are down about 15% this year...but all from the first quarter. This winter is not looking real good though. We'll see what happens.

Tool and Die Machine shop.already surpassed last year in sales:cool: Looks to be a VERY good year for me. Just hope it keeps going. Looks to best year in a wile, Need to go look back but best year in 5 alteast. Been flat out can't keep up sence mid Feb.

experimental aircraft company. I have 8 days left here. The company is booked solid through next June, but haven't sold a plane in about 3 months...sales-people say that they have strong leads who are waiting for years end to see if they need to dump some money for tax purposes before putting down their $500g, but we'll see...

my next venture should be fairly stable for a while. Even Nobama hasn't mentioned reducing the Marine Corps yet...

Smart Home Technologies, Home automation, Home Theaters, etc. Development companies are not building. Hangin on! Selling flat panel TV's and Plasmas. Keeps a little income on the roll.

Just hope it snows, if there is no work at least it would be nice to ride.

Business overall is off this year. All in all we are doing well. Company is buying up dealerships and expanding in to new markets as we speak. Many of our competitors have been laying off however.

It seems that if people would stop watching TV, things wouldn't be all that bad. Gotta love the fear mongering media.

Business

Well ATV and UTV sales are in the toilet if you are looking for a 4 wheeler now is the time to buy most smart dealer are willing to just get rid of them to save them form paying any more interest.sled sales are weird up and down. August I sold every used sled I had and could have sold more Spet was not bad and Oct was even slower thank goodness for new sleds sales and turbo's to keep us busy.

Computer networking industry - Still going strong. Having our best year yet. Corporate spending hasn't slowed down yet, but many are projecting it will. I've got my fingers crossed that this downturn won't be as bad as the doom and gloomers are projecting.

It seems that unless you are working for a bank, if you didn't watch TV you'd have no idea any of this was going on. The fundementals (i.e. business comprised of hard working men and women) of our economy ARE strong. The part that is weak is the exact one that the gov started messing with, financials (liberals and dems forcing subprime loans). Blame wall street and executives?!? NOT. Blame the liberals in Congress and their crooked friends!

Oil & Gas industry.

Booming like you wouldn't believe, even though its finally starting to slow down compaired to the last 8 years or so.

Not to step on your toes, but I've got a number of friends who work in both the Bismarck and Gwinner plants who really seem to have their unders in a bunch. Ever since they announced they were suspending production for 6 weeks everyone is trying to guess how badly the sales are in the tank and if there will be long term layoffs involved.

I work for truck and auto accessories dealer. We had our best year ever last year and for the most part were up a little bit over last year. The last 2 months have been pretty slow, but it's picking up again with holiday shoppers. I'm thinking we will end up even with last year or slightly better, so I guess we really can't complain considering the economy and the fact that we are in an industry that targets the "wants" of ppl.

Truck/frieght broker covering all 48 states. Dry and refrigerated products.
Certain areas of this are still going fine ie. grocery goods, etc
Other areas have bombed ie. sporting goods, luxury items, etc.
Warehouses aren't stocking as much product as yrs past, only ordering few pallets at a time, sell that, and order more. And freight rates are dropping like a rock.
On a brighter note, fuel prices dropping have helped a BUNCH!!!!!!
