snowmobiling near Salt Lake

I'm moving from Anchorage to Slat Lake next fall for a year while my wife does her DDS residency for dental school at the University of Utah hospital. I've been riding my whole life so I feel fortunate that she got into a program where there is snow and mountains. I guess my question is there riding very close to the Salt Lake area, and if not how far? When does the riding season usually go from?

As close as 40 minutes. Season depends on snow. Some road riding in late Oct or Nov. Normally rocks are cover good by Dec but not this year. Didn't happen until last week in several places. You can chase spring snow up the Mirror Lake highway until May, sometimes later.
