We are thinking about heading out to the Snowies next week just wondering what the snow is still like?? I am also wondering where you park when you head up the mountain can you still park at Green Rock?

Ignore greenrock.
Head on up and over the top. The road is open all the way over.
I parked at the area where CE (coming from Chains End) meets N (where N turns and goes north from Hi-130).
There are some wide areas to park RIDE beside the road right at that point.
There is plenty of snow to ride.

Would the snow be worth a 14 hour drive out there? And also is the snow only good in the mornings, and people on here have been saying that its like riding on mashed potatoes?? Is that a accurate statement??

Thanks in advance!!

That is up to you. There is more than enough snow to ride on. If you are looking for soft fluffy over the hood snow. Ain't gonna happen.

It is springtime snow. Yea, mashed patatoes is a good description. About 4-6" of mashed tators over hard pack.
I generally aim for 9:30 - 10:00 am start time and ride till 4:00 - 5:00 in the evening. If you like water skipping there is some of that there also.

According to snowtel there is over 68" of snow around north french creek and sand lake and 50+" at brooklyn. Should be able to ride a couple more weeks.

Mashed potatoes are better than rock hard. We rode Sat afternoon and Sunday morning and there is still a ton of snow on the back side. The main problem we had was parking where we could get out of the road since we forgot a shovel. To me the riding was better in the afternoon compared to the morning. Saturday was a pretty good time, but Sunday, we were on the snow at 7:30 am, and it was hard as a rock. Still better than doing anything else of course.

We're calling it a year, hauled all the sleds home from Laramie. In 20 years of riding, it was our best. I made 12 trips this season, which is a record for me, but my checkbook is empty. Now the long wait until next year.

SSSOooooooooo.........................
I shouldn't mention 25 weekends of riding??
1400 miles so far. Only a couple weeks left though.

That's what I am hoping for.
I want another powder ride in oct like we had in the beggining of the 06/07 season. that would give me just enough down time to get the sleds fixed up from this season and get the new "look" done on both of em.

I'll put up some pics from this coming saturday.
We will be up riding.

The streams are starting to open up. We did a little water skipping on some of the slush. It's not open water, mostly slushy water.

As for the conditions.
We will definetly be going back up next saturday. It is melting FAST though. The streams are running full blast.
Should be able to get 2 weekends, but the weekend after next might start getting dicey.

Thanks for the update ollie. We rode today an I was amazed a how much snow was still up there. It was kind of cold and windy but still fun. Sure seems like winter up there still! Gonna try for next weekend too. Which ever is the warmest day.

Snotel was showing 5" of new snow from saturday night till sunday morning.
True??

Where did you guys go?

Five inches of new snow? Maybe I put the sled in the corner of the garage too soon. If only I didn't have a 1200 mile round trip to get there!

1200 miles of driving - 250 dollars in fuel.
preping the sled with fuel and oil - 50 dollars
2 nights hotel room - 120 dollars
Food - 75 dollars
Bragging to your buddies that your rode your sled in june - priceless.
