This thread will be a place to ask questions you are unsure on with tuning/install/features etc...

Well i figured since there was 36 from this site that order silber turbos, we will all be recieving are kits in the next couple weeks.

This thread can be a place to ask / answer questions you may have about the kit / questions with installing / tuning etc... Because what one guy might not know someone else will.

Its my first turbo so Ill start with a dumb question:

1. I unload my sled at 2000 ft and ride from 5-8000 ft. lets say i want to run 8lbs of boost. Do i have to manually turn the boost knob on the turbo and keep an eye on the boost guage to make sure it is reading 8lbs of boost?, as i am going up in elevation. Or can i just pre set it in the shop and head to the hills and forget about it? How does it work as altitude changes.
I assume you turn the boost adjuster knob and then go one setting up on the boost/fuel settng on the box per lb of boost. Or is it all done automatically?

can anyone clarify?

The boost should stay the same at different elevations with a manual boost controller. When I had an electronic I set the elevation pressure I plannes to run and it would adjust boost so it always felt like 15psi at 6000 feet, as you went up in elevation it would increase boost. However with the manual one its my understanding it will stay 10psi if that is what you set it at.

As for the fuel box you will adjust the boost potion for increases in boost. But if you change elevation there is another setting that has to do with elevation. It basically moves your whole fuel curve up or down and keeps the cruising, wot and boost fueling alone.

For example on my apex I lived at 300feet and rode at 6000 feet. I tunes it for the 6000 feet but when I went back home it would stumble bad unloading so I adjusted the amber/blue light down and then ran fine.

Once you set the cruising, acceleration, wot and boost settings you really shouldn't have to change them again.

So my plan when i install my silber kit is to go to trail with justins presets. Then I will try to set the boost up to 12psi while watching my age to make sure it is rich enough. Once I have boost set I will fine tune the fueling to get the optimum af number which most run like a 12.2. I tend to run more of a 11.8 because I like being on the rich side. This was what I ran on my apex, and will ask Justin what he thinks is a safe number for the pro

How about running a BD EBC? Can it be done withe Silber kit? This a great question as it will be my first turbo with EFI.

Yes it can.

If it does stay at say its 8 psi regardless of elevation.

How do you know your fuel box is at the 8lb of boost setting on the "boost fuel adjuster". for the 8lbs the turbo is running

There is no set number on the fuel controller for a certain psi number. You basically watch your af gauge and add fuel to the boost setting if it is lean under boost. And you know which setting to adjust because the fuel box will illuminate the colors of what part of the fuel map it is using. So if you are cruising it will have the amber lite on at a certain number. There are 8 numbers I believe but you can do half number increments so say at cruising you are seeing an af number of 13. You stop the sled and while it's running you hit mode button until it gets to amber lite and then press the + sign and say it was illuminated on 3, once you press the + it will illuminate 3 and 4, press it again it will illuminate 4 only and so on. Once you increase it wait a second and the fuel box will program itself and you are ready to run again. Then check af number at the same speed you were running and see if it's at 12, adjust till it is.

But Justin will have them really close. You only want to adjust the boost setting if the green/blue is illuminated when you are on the gas, and just increase it or decrease it till you get the af as 12. I prefer to start rich and decrease numbers to my liking.

Hope that helps, I can try to explain better if you need. If you send me your email I think I still have instructions on my apex for the fuel controller which is the same doebeck style box.

A manual boost controller works just as good as an electronic it just takes the guessing game out of turning the manual boost controller knob to get a boost level you want.

The electronic one I had on my apex was a prologger which is pricey and don't think it's needed.

So is an ebc just complicating the whole thing? Would you add it to the Silber kit? I am just trying to make it a jump on and ride as much as I can.

It's really just preference I think. But silber includes a manual boost controller. It will take you like 5-10 mins to adjust the controller to the boost you want and then you will never touch it. I prefer less electronics on a sled and like keeping it simple.

The manual boost controller is very simple to operate and has proven to be the most reliable and user friendly. The manual boost controllers spool the turbo up fast also, so our data logger says.

However we are developing a new electronic boost controller, that hopefully will be release later this season. We will offer it to our current customers for COST.

Every fuel controller that is made by Dobeck will possible have a different map inside the controller. So like your Apex box is going to have a different map and then the ProRMK. The box that will come with Silber's kit are a Generation 3.5 controller. The Green Blue mode will still be adjust the boost fuel. When the controller's blue light come on when driving is when this zone will add fuel. You should only see the blue light on a ProRMK in the Red(MidRange-WOT).

Should i run extrovert drivers with the turbo?

I do . And it works great. you can run the track looser . less track tension=less friction= more track speed.Don't run it to loose, just enough to let the track hang 1 inch between the rails and track. hope this helps. Dan
