Snow sticking to bottom of ski

more snow

When the weather is slightly warm and the snow gets sticky I have been having a lot more issues with the snow freezing and sticking to the bottom of my ski. Ends up causing a crash or tip over almost every time since the ski just plows and wont grab for the turn. Basically have to tip the bike over and scrape the frozen snow and ice off the ski before I can proceed.

Anybody have some great solutions to this problem? Has anyone tried ski wax to help remedy this issue? Thanks.

once the ski gets all scratched up you will get ice forming under it. You can take the ski off, and heat it up and reduce the scratched with a propane torch. Once it's cooled cover it in silicone.. It helps, but I found once my old ski was bent and scratched, there was nothing I could do to stop it from happening.

I would first do the torch treatment and smooth out some of the scratches. Don't go crazy here and melt the ski. Just go back and forth and you can tell when it is working.

Then spray with WD-40 or even Pledge furniture spray.

Thanks for the great ideas. I will give the torch fix a try and then lube with something.

Has anyone tried to get wax for downhill skis to stick? I suspect that it wouldn't adhere very long to the ski bottom.

I use ski wax and a heat gun works good and last longer than say wd40 or cooking spray.

they make oil impregnated uhmw plastic, I wonder how that would work for a ski?....

Ausm7499, how well does the wax stick to the ski? How often do you need to reapply? Do you flatten or scrape off the excess wax after applying? Thanks for the help.

I would say that I am a little ocd sometimes and usually reapply after every ride but most of the wax is still on the ski after one ride and it just needs touched up. I don't do any scraping or flattening the heat gun does a good job and makes it really easy to apply the wax.

sticky chit

hit those conditons yesterday, bought went on my head a few times taking off, was almost funny, going to pack some slick stuff of some kind.
